Self defence most of the times.But if you are not carefull and you have children than it is an accident waiting to happen.

some states are now passing a STAND YOUR GROUND bill..where if your in your home and ,your life is in danger than you can use any means neccessary to defend you and your family this means you can kill that person if they are toating a weapon..if one is a responsable gun owner in the 1st place than this is not an issue.......

I have my pistol sitting beside me, round in the chamber, but it just won't shoot itself. It takes an action for the firing pin to strike the primer.

So I don't see how an accident could happen, at least at my place I don't have children. And even then the children to hurt someone have to point it at a person. If a parent teaches safety and is responsible to have biometric safes in the home, there will be no problem.

The supreme court has said that the police have no legal responsibility to respond. Even if they do it can take upwards 30 minutes to respond, it takes thirty seconds to bleed out. I want to have chance to protect my family and me.

Every home and every person should be armed. Accidents with firearms are rare but they get lots of media attention. When lives are saved by gun owners, the media ignores this. Innocent people are gunned down everyday by criminals that are armed. They would be much less reluctant to attack people if they know they may be shot in the process.

Not everyone is irresponsible and not everyone has children. This is one of those "use your common sense" sort of issues. It isn't my fault if some of you morons don't have any!

Pierre -- How many unmanned guns have killed people? The GUN isn't trying to kill you, it doens't "try" to do anything. That is the mentality problem you people have, you think the gun is a living, breathing object. It is an object. Sitting on a table, it is no more harmful than a coffee mug.

Lawnmowers.... a way to trim the grass, or the quickest way to sever your hand?

Electricity... a way to power your house, or a way to electrocute yourself?

Pools... a way to cool off, or the leading cause of accidental deaths among young children?

Automobiles... a way to get around, or the cause of thousands of accidental deaths annually in your state alone, far more than gunshot wounds?

Pesticide... a way to get rid of termites, or a way to accidentally kill yourself by accidental contamination?

Clorox Bleach... a way to whiten your linens, or a fatal poison to small snooping children?

Hardwood furniture... a way to keep your personal items off of the floor, or a toddler's head-smacking nightmare?

Gravity... a way to allow matter to form celestial bodies, or an unfortunate phenomenon which kills hapless children who fall out of second story buildings?

Smoking... recreational pastime, or leading cause of cancer?

Listen fellows and girls. Taking away a law abiding civilian's right to defend thier home is the first step in creating a new Maoist Republic here in the United States. Maybe less people die from accidental gunshot in China, but more people die by being forced at gunpoint to work in labor camps, and more people mysteriously vanish and are never seen again, except by those needing kidneys or eyes, thanks to the Chinese law banning private firearms.

You think it cannot happen here? Read a history book. Throughout our "previous" government's history, people under the king were prevented from training with weapons or owning weapons altogether. This was a measure intended to prevent the people from becomming autonomous.

If you don't like guns, don't get one. It is the only reason why you have freedom to this day. We didn't exactly sit down with our tyrant and have tea together, and walk away with our freedoms. Many people have died to protect your freedom from tyranny.

NOT your freedom "to do whatever I want". That implies legalized criminality.

It's only an accident waiting to happen if someone is irresponsible. Which, in every accidental shooting, is ALWAYS the case. I always had a gun in my home, got rid of it 2 years ago. My experience of the past 20years is that we have more to fear from the government than any intruder. And since that's the case, anyone's welcome to break into my home but they have to get through the 4 dogs and if they manage that and kill me, I'm figuring it'd probably be better to go that way than to have to watch the government do it legally.

Statistically proven fact, supported by centuries of history. Guns PREVENT crime! Now, many (including our press) do not want you to understand that. MANY Government studies have proven criminals are more afraid of armed citizens than law enforcement as an individual is more likely to shoot, the cops have TOO MANY restrictions on them.
This issue is being made into an emotional issue, not a factual issue. Like any inaminate object, the operator is responsible for the object's use.

Self defense, it is very handy, but very deadly if you put it in a place where someone irresponsible can get a hold of it.

Staistics prove the less access to guns the less gun deaths.
A gun in a home is not just an accident waiting to happen it is also a homicide waiting to happen. The most common form of murder is within families, So the next time Pappa gets drunk and angry out comes the Magnum and goodbye momma.

Why do you think we have the police, if we start using lethal weapons in self defense, we revert back to animal instincts - nobody wants that. There is no need for guns at all in civil life. Their presence creates far more problems than they cure, and that cure is not a nice cure, it is based on fear and pain.
In short, an accident waiting to happen.
