HOW IS THIS RIGHT? HOW IS THIS JUSTIFIABLE?

Sarasota county is one of the nations richest counties. It is second to palm beach county florida. We have expensive homes and a great school system (for being 48th in education). but that's another story....
Sarasota is run not by a mayor, but by a city commission of which it's citizens can vote for the members. The members usually being rich, white and republican. (but let's not delve into character here. or should we?) Last year, these people have seem to think that making people homeless was a good idea. See there are what they call 'derelict' boats. Boats not always in perfect condition that park or moore illegally behind docks and neighborhoods. These residents consider this an eye soar to look at run down boats, and some become enraged that these boat dwellers don't pay any docking fees.
In the middle of the night the police come and tow the boat away whilst they physically remove anyone living in these homes on the water. These boats are HOMES TO PEOPLE. People who struggle through life, but people non the less. The police disallow the owners to collect their possesions and crush everything they own ON SITE.
This starts a hellish snow ball effect that can be prevented and is in a way, unnecessary. See, in sarasota if you are homeless and sleep on the street; you have to have a camping permit or police will take you to jail for not having a home. But you can't get a camping permit unless you have a permanent address. So any homeless are caught up in this catch 22. This law was designed to control our growing homeless population which in turn is caused by our growing unemployment rate. There are alot of other issues here that go into this but I think you are catching my point....
Citizens that vote for this commission are at fault.
The city commision is at fault for siding with the richest residents whom have no sense of reality as money is blinding.
and the police are just doing their job. Right?
BUT HOW IS THIS RIGHT?
MAKING PEOPLE HOMELESS BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THE BOAT OR WHERE IT'S PARKED?
WHERE HAS SOCIETY GONE WRONG? WTF!!! Additional Details well rightwing.. this started under the bush administration while Jeb Bush was governer. and our city commision is repbulican. but as I said-i'm not going there. These boats are not sea worthy and often times are not properly registered and they do break laws by docking illegaly. but my point is. with the economy being the way it is., why come we can't look the other way. These poor people are just trying to live.

"Parked or moored illegally" has a lot to do with it. I think you are right that there are a lot of issues involved, but it seems to all start with someone placing an object (a boat) illegally in, by, on, or behind (homes and neighborhoods) belonging to someone else.
If they don't want the consequences, don't break the law. Moor elsewhere.
Edit: Just had to come back. I'd like to ask YOU some questions about your question. Do you live in the area? Are the boats mooring behind YOUR house? Do you have a house, with a yard, maybe? Why not let some of the homeless put up a tent in your back yard, so they won't have to worry about that permit?
Or maybe you have neither a house nor a yard. If that is the case, then you have no idea what the owners of these properties have gone through and sacrificed in order to HAVE those homes. So who are you to say they should "just let" those houseboats tie up to their piers?
I'm betting you DON'T own property. People who own property know just how hard it is to get and hold on to possessions in this day and age.
Where has society gone wrong? It went wrong when people decided the government could cure all ills and take care of all the peoples woes, instead of relying upon the individuals of a state, city, town, community, church, etc. to take up the slack. |

The tent cities have also been evicted. I say, open up the empty foreclosed homes and let them live there. These people need help not to be treated like garbage. These people are suffering in large part because of the government's ponzi schemes. |

It isn't fair. People who get enough power to help people only use it to help themselves. This world is messed up. |

there are a lot of legal issues you did not address. are these boats licensed and registered. Were the boats abandoned and taken over by the homeless. Are they being properly maintained and sea worthy? Are they a safety hazard to other boaters and the occupants?Where is the vaunted obama welfare system to help these people? |

Perhaps you should look more at the facts you mentioned. These are boats docked or moored "illegally". Probably not licensed either (?). |

It's going to get a lot worse. What you are seeing now is only the very tip of the iceberg. As home foreclosures rise, the number of homeless will increase dramatically. This will give rise to roving bands of homeless mobs while thousands of homes sit empty, and because these homes sit empty, they will be stripped of copper pipe, electrical cable, fixtures, everything of value that can be carted away. So in the end you will have crowds of homeless people sleeping in the streets next to homes that have been gutted by thieves. Your City Commission wil have to start building huge concentration camps big enough to hold tens of thousands of homeless derelicts. |

In case you haven't noticed there are two classes of people in this country. The rich who run it and the poor who have to live under their laws and rules. Only in America land of the NOT so free. |
