non-white institutions and female dominated organizations were only around to keep them out of white institutions and male organizations which allowed far superior education and activities. modern day "black colleges" let in white applicants too, but white applicants don't generally apply due to the racial discomfort and ability to apply elsewhere.
some former "finishing schools" turned universities still maintain a "girls only" policy, while others are able to enroll men now.
