You have to understand there there is always a possibilty for a misunderstanding or even blatant lies.

You were not at the scene, so you don't know anything. All you can talk about is what you heard on the news or read in the paper. You can only talk about what someone else told you.

Has anyone ever said things about you that weren't true? Wouldn't you want a fair chance to defend yourself?
