I get abuse form them when I come out of work in the evening cos they all hang round outside the shopping centre drinking cheap booze I'm always very strict when selling alcohol and if I see someone sending an older person into the off licence next door I will always go in and tell the cashier not to serve them cos I am sick of getting abuse from people that have nothing better to do because there is a young people's centre near by that runs after school clubs. I agree that the parents should have to pay for damage and discipline their children. |

my brother in law was beaten up on his way to work one night there was a gang of lads aged 14+ on the pavement and all he asked was could he get passed, and then they started abusing him and pushing he until he fell over and then they kicked him round the floor, they got away with it as they said they had been drinking and couldn't remember what happened, but 2 of the boys are in jail now for other crimes i think the kids should pay not the parents, most kids are not bought up to behave like this |

I have and don't fell comfortable going to many places now i once thought safe. I have had problems and once intervened in what could have been a serious assault on a young boy who was surrounded by about 20 little yobs, i stepped in, not sure i would do so again. Isn't it about time all the factors came into play, parents to get them in, schools to have more power over the ones that truant and misbehave, detention, loss of privileges, i don't believe in corporal punishment by the way, it never worked. And the police to get back on the streets and pick up and stop and search anyone who is hanging around causing a nuisance. Sorry it sounds draconian, but isn't it time we reclaimed our lives. |

If you mean intimidated or physically abused, no I haven't but I admit I do take care not to allow myself to be put into a situation whereby I might lay myself open to confrontation with thugs who appear to enjoy such " fun". If I felt intimidated or was attacked on my own property I would defend myself with whatever weapon was available to me. |

Here is a cautionary but very true story that involved a friend of mine in Birmingham,UK.
Walking home from work late at night, he spotted a group of youths, all hooded up and laughing, joking and looking like trouble. Having read all about these little "chavs", my friend decided to cross the road to avoid an obvious confrontation. On the other side of the road was a young couple, mid to late 20's, looking respectable, hand in hand.
My friend crossed the road... and was accused of giving the female "funny looks" by the male, and was then set upon by both! The violent assault that followed was not for the weak stomached, and would have been 100 times worse... if it was not for the gang of youths intervening to help my friend by chasing off the assailants, and making sure that he was ok and waiting for an ambulance with him!!!
Just because you read about attacks by youths in the newspapers, does not mean that it is going to happen to you. If such attacks were as prevalent as the media likes to make out, they would not be so news worthy |

yes, I was attacked by a couple of chavs late at night whilst walking home from swimming. They thought better of it after one of them punched me and bounced off.
Oh, the yobs should have to work to pay fines. |

Yes had stones thrown at the windows and when you approach them you get a torrent of abuse. The parents are no better, waste of time talking to them. Yes the parents should be held responsible for the damage they cause. |

No I have never been intimidated by the younger generation I find that if you treat them as adults that seems to go down well with them. I think that most youngsters are pretty OK it is just the few that get all the media attention after all doing good does not make the headlines usually. If they get into trouble then I would put them into boot camp and when I had sorted them out with some firm discipline on into the forces for a couple of years |

I was once involved in a near riot situation with approx 300 - 500 of the little cherubs (about 14 to 16 years of age) they had robbed a bin from an old peoples home on their way out of school & rolled it into a river, I had a word in their shell like & it all went T!T$ up, fortunately there were only about 4 ringleaders who were up for a barney & they soon lost there bottle & legged it, It could have been a completely different story, had the masses had a go , I could have been a statistic. |

I don't think its the parents fault all the time (sometimes they just come from a bad family) so i think the kid responsible should have to earn the money to pay. Might teach them a bit of respect and that there will be consequences for their actions |

Yes I have. My Friend and I once went to our local shop where there were 5 youngsters hanging around outside. I was eight months pregnant at the time and when I went get back into my friend's car, I had eggs thrown at me. The kids scarpered, but I did call the police when I got home. They could do nothing, because I didn't recognise them. In this case there was no recourse as nothing was damaged, except my faith in youngsters. From that day to this, I won't go in a shop if there are kids hanging around outside. |

I think that the parents should certainly take some responsibility, however, the problem is that many of these little b*stards take no notice of their parents anyway.
I understand what you mean though, because as the adult, you are in a lose/lose situation. There are some shops near me and a group of "youths" hang around there most evenings.
I'm 6ft and broadly built but it doesn't stop them from being mouthy because my options are to ignore them (in which case they think you're scared) or tell them to p*ss off (which I have to admit I have done) which encourages them to increase their numbers and try to intimidate you.
You can't give them a slap because then you're in the wrong, but you also regularly hear about people being beaten to death by "a gang of youths" and so you don't really want to wait until you get set-upon to defend yourself.
It's a rough situation... |

When I was 13 a bunch of 9 years old tried to mug me. I took the bus to another city to buy some fireworks. I bought about 200 dollars worth, so I guess they saw that I had lots of money one me. I brought my little homemade pistol along just for that kind of thing, since that area is known for crime.
I regret to say that I couldn't run away so I shot one of them in the face. Its non-lethal shot, mainly dessicant gel bits. They had some really long knives, so I suppose shooting them with a homemade BP pistol is justified, even though its technically illegal to possess one at that time.
The muzzle blast was explosive, in the smoke I got away, disposed the disposeable pistol and got on the bus with the fireworks in my backpack.
I don't use that kind of pistol anymore ever since. I'm more likely to blow my hand off with that than a M80. Now its pepper spray, tazer, or small folding knife. |

You are the guy that cant stand up to a little kid. Have you talked to the parents if it really is serious. If it isnt very serious than who cares if a kid tries to intimate you. |
