Raising the minimum wage sounded good, but all it did was left us in the same boat we were in at first. We still can't afford anything. And the people who get minimum wage are still in a boat with holes.

That's the way it has always been. That is why conservatives are always against raising the minimum wage. They can see the bigger picture...

Here is a thought:

Waiting for the minimum wage to go up so you can buy better stuff probably is not a very good plan. Do you really need all the things you have right now, especially if you are making minimum wage? What 'things' can't you afford? Maybe you should spend your money more wisely.

And are you acquiring any marketable skills that would allow you to attain a higher paying position/job?? Or just waiting for that minimum wage to creep up again?

Did you notice that minimum wage was raised after the cost of everything else starting going up? Cost of everything went up and that is why minimum wage went up, then employers needed a way to pay the new min wage.

Growl
Always has happened. If wages go up for any reason, prices go up at least as much, usually more.

it's a cost of living increase....minimum wage goes up B/C the prices go up

Money has to come from somewhere...

The prices go up anyway, regardless of the minimum wage. It's called inflation. And with oil at or around $100/barrel, EVERYTHING's going to get more expensive.

O'Really
do us all a favor and google corn ethanol

!truth!
It's just your imagination just like George W. Bush's imagination that there is no recession in the USA.

Food went up as soon as they started using corn as fuel. It has nothing to do with the minimum wage. It is going up gradually and hasn't really raised enough to make a huge difference. Most people make more than minimum wage anyway.

You mean they actually raised it? where was I...?

A dollar per hour raise for someone who touches 100 of your product every hour they work would only increase the cost by a little over one cent per item per employee that has to touch the item.

Increases like this can usually be at least partially offset by efficiency adjustments, which many employers pay little attention to when they are paying lower wages, but only when they are forced to by wage increases.

The majority of jobs effected by the latest minimum wage increase have fallen far below inflation adjustments needed to keep Americans interested in doing these jobs.

People work to pay their bills. There is no incentive to work if the pay doesn't cover you bills with a little left over and minimum wage jobs were not able to make the ends meet, even for very young workers, with very low bills to pay.

No, this insane inflation occured with this massive borrowing and raising the price of gas--even though the oil companies have a 14-month high an excess gas (due to the slow economy) and are actually exporting the excess to Nigeria!

technically i don't think this is a question, but i'll put in my cander. If i recall correctly the cost of living went up long before the minimum wage did; as it has for the last several decades. The reason it seems the other way around it because we have seen a huge cost of living increase in a very short time since the last time they adjusted the min. wage. As a result they are now having to shorten the interval between raising the min. wage. In short the raising of the min. wage is not at all to give a better life to those strugging to support their families, it' merely to offset inflation... sad.

Same for people on social security or retirement.

this is incorrect

oversimplified assumptions as an excuse to allow corporations to pay people less than a living wage
