Having photo taken at work.?

Having photo taken at work.?

hi all.
whilst working a group of people from a tool supplier started filming staff working on site.management had only informed staff 1 hour before work begun and did not ask for consent to have staff filmed.
the work was outside and in a safety critical environment.
i felt uncomfortable with the filming (moving and still cameras) and i made this clear to one of the people filming.also i felt my safety was at risk as i was always looking around to see where the camera was instead of concentrating on my work.
my concerns are how will my image be used and will it be shared by other companies.i did not give my consent and do not wish my image to be used.
i feel my privacy and right to work unhindered as been violated.
can anyone advise if i have the right to ask for all video and photographs, storage equipment (memory disks, disks etc) to be handed over to me for distruction.
also what action could i take to make sure i am not put in this position again.
uk based answers if possible please.
thank you.

Now in the great US of A we have to sign a consent form from who every has the camera and or recorder so if i were you then I would find out who they are and tell them that they can not use your images or you will contact a lawyer and the next time this happens walk away is all you can do.

some corporate policies make it clear under their employment you have waived certain rights you need to review you employees policy

While you do not have the right to destroy the images taken, you do have the right to sue if your image is used without your permission. Such action will not make you very popular in your workplace, but it will make a point. A better course would be to express your concerns to your company to hopefully restrict future filming or photography.

uh...you can ask.

They won't give it to you; you are "At work" under the guidelines and specific work related tasks of your employer.

Unless you're in witness protection, get over yourself. It sounds like you just realized that you'd like to have extra money for this "intrusion" into your personal space. When you didn't get it, you decided you'd like to be as big a thorn in their side as possible.

Hire yourself a lawyer if you feel so strongly about it, but you're probably going to lose.

It makes me wonder why people automatically side with the employer. I suppose the american dream is to own your own business so perhaps these people have that vision in mind - they want employees that are like little robots. (easily programmed)

I understand how you feel. What are your specific fears and reservations? What concerns do you have? I honestly can't think of any that you really need to be worried about. I think you should just let it go because it may not be worth a fight. Given the economic environment, I think you have to pick your battles carefully or suffer the consequences.

I'm with you but I think you are probably overreacting and should just let it go. I'm conservative when it comes to work - risk adverse.

I don't like it. I don't think employees are robots. They are human beings and should be treated with respect. It should not feel like prison. That kind of environment does not make for a most productive one. It really drains people. It's depressing. It's a two way street. To me, employees and employer should be almost equal. Since the burden is on the employer - I think they should get a little more leverage but not where they can abuse employees. Again, it would not be in the employer's best interest. That's not how you inspire and retain the best employees.
