I'm a renter of a small yet expensive apartment, that isn't worth the expense. I have a cat in my apartment, mainly because I have a rodent problem that the land lord claims he fixed. Last winter (4 months ago) I had no heat for a week, and on some cold days it doesn't work. My apartment has been broken into twice, and the land lord won't do anything about extra security. My land lord each week will ask me to get into my apartment to show it for a full day, even though I'm still technically there for 2 more months. I told him that I work nights and would like to get some sleep during the day, but he complains saying that he needs to show it to get it rented. Last week I was kicked out of my apartment for 3 days for an electrician (still have problems with the electricity though). HELP ME GET OUT OF THIS PLACE! I FEEL HARASSED! Is there a law for land lords to follow with harassing their tenants? Or is there a loop hole where I can break lease and still get all of my security deposit back?

Tell the landlord that if he gets another tenant who is willing to move in before your lease is up, you will gladly move in exchange for your security deposit. Make it look like it will benefit him more than it will you. |

Does the landlord give 24 hours notice before he/she intends to enter the place? If not, you have a good case to break the lease as he/she is breaking the law by not allowing you to enjoy the property that you pay rent for in peace, since he knows that you work nights and need your rest, it could also be a landlord nuisance problem, but it sounds to me like you don't like the place anymore and you also have a good case based on the fact that the heat was not working properly making it uninhabitable, which he/she is liable for and is responsible for maintaining. Talk to someone at legal aid and they can help you figure out your options for little to no cost, depending on income. |
