i live in bronx nursing home i want to live independently on my ssi income

You can check the phone book for senior living places. Or check with your local senior center.

You might go to the Dept. of Human Services, or whatever they call it there. It's the same place that grants food stamps and state medical aid. (Not Medicare and Medicaid, they are both federal programs.)

They will have you see a counselor who can tell you about where to apply or get help in finding what you want.

I don't know about New York, but where I live it is extremely difficult to find a bed in an assisted living place, they are all taken already.
