How can I obtain money that is rightfully mine?

My grandparents had a savings account for me in which they deposited money to be used for college. One of the rules of the account was that I could not use any of it until I turned 18. Well, when my grandfather passed away when I was 16 my grandmother closed the account for financial reasons. My mother's name was on the account so she was given my money to hold until I was of age. My father decided "invest" it in an insurance policy to keep it safe. I have asked him for the money and he continues to tell me, I'll get it when I need it.
My first question is: Is this legal since his name was not on the account?
My second question is: Is there anything I can do to obtain this money...since it is rightfully mine?

There is not ot much you can do.
Your name was never on the account, so legally it is not your money.
Your grandmother gave the money to your mother, who in turn gave it to your father to invest. He can do what he wants to do with it.
Maybe he will give you the money sometime in the future, maybe not.
In the meantime, stay in school and finish your education. That is what your grandparents wanted. |

There are attorneys that you can consult many of whom work pro-bono.
Not knowing all of the conditions of the account it would be better if you have a copy of papers take them with you when you talk to the attorney. |
