How can I officially copyright 5 songs online?

How can I copyright my songs online. I mean I dont really trust the internet but maybe I can copyright it with no problem.

Also, if anyone can tell me where I could go. any local places in NYC.

No! There is nowhere to 'go' to copyright songs. The idea is this: DON'T put them in the public domain before you've had an oppty to sell them to a PUBLISHER/Promoter. If you innocently post a youtube.com video, say, and Madonna is surfing in search of new material, she might see it and record/publish it ... and good luck trying to claim copyright from the material girl!

Copyright exists inherently in every artistic work. What you sell are the rights to it. If you make your stuff available before following appropriate submission procedures, you can't cry later. Here's the real kicker: If after the material girl records your songs you try to assert the stuff is really yours, Madonna would no doubt sue you! It's all about being first to record/publish.
