How can i be charged with petty theft-shopliftting--when i gave the property back --?

how can i still be charged with petty theft still when i gave the property back to the store-------and then how can the store charge me for taking the property--when i gave it back-----they dont have any basis for charging me---and then the cops charged me for petty theft---but they say they charged me because i ran at first----it sounds like nobody has a case against me-------any one had this happen to them also--what happened---maybe someone who knows law a little could give me some words of advice----thanks

they can get you for the 5 finger discount before you leave the store if you "conceal" the item in some states. i got stopped in FL before I left the store. if you call around you can get FREE consultations with defense attorneys and they will gladly answer that for you. i pity you because i have been scared with the 5 finger discount and my antics.

No advice, the crime took place as soon as you exited the premisis with it wether you gave it back or not has no bearing.I used to be a Loss prevention agent and busted tons of shoplifters. You want to avoid paying fines and going to jail hears a tip, QUIT BREAKING THE LAW!

so when we catch a bank robber and get the money back, we should just let them go? i am amazed you can even work a computer to type that.

Bill
Because, um... YOU SHOPLIFTED!

Giving it back doesn't negate taking it, any more than returning a stolen car "undoes" the fact that you stole the car.

I am not an attorney, but you need one. You also need someone to talk to you about your poor life choices.

you only gave it back because you got caught

You're kidding, right?

I have a tip for you:

get your head out of your posterior, grow up and stop thinking you can screw anyone out of anything they have. Its people like you that make me want to see them electrocute shoplifters.

Because you stole it before you could give it back.

Charlie
Probably because you made the attempt to steal. Just because you got caught and didn't get away with it, it does not mean you are innocent.

Same reason you can get charged with attempted murder, just because you don't kill the person doesn't mean it wasn't your intent.

I hope the judge makes you stand outside the store with a sign that tells the world you tried to shoplift, but were an idiot and got caught.

OK so if I rob a bank and get caught I will be free if I give the money back? That would be setting a dangerous precedent wouldn't it???

Stump O
ive done this myself they can charge you what ever hey want because you broke the law

STEVEN F
You got caught stealing and you think you should get of because you did not get to KEEP what you stole? If you actually NEED an answer to this question, I wonder if you will actually learn from one. Can I 'borrow' your car for a few YEARS? by your logic, as long as I give it back, I am not guilty of a crime.

wow, you are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

You gave the property back after you stole it so you don't believe you should be charged theft.

wow.

You stole merchandise, giving it back does not mean you didn't steal. It just means you got caught.

"it sounds like nobody has a case against me"

They have a case against you- you got caught red handed whilst shoplifting and ran!

Returning the goods back doesn't make you a philanthropist as you shouldn't have took them anyway, and you were always going to HAVE to return them back as they caught you with them.

Poor little you. Time to grow up and face the consequences of your action.

actually to rebuttle bills incorrect point about taking a car and bringing it back it actually does negate stealing it that will always almost get dropped down to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle but still you shop lifted

bam bam is single
why would u take it to begin with?????

Charged does not mean convicted.

You are entitled to a trial on the evidence.

If you don't figure it out by then, listen closely during the trial for the parts of the evidence that were persuasive in coming to whatever the verdict is.

What do you mean, it sounds like no one has a case against you? Seems to me that they have a great case! And they absolutely have a basis for charging you, because you stole. You don't have to still be in possession of the property in order to be charged with stealing it, especially if you stole it. It's still a crime, even though you got caught and had to give it back. Sorry, dude. My best advice is to own up to it in court, forget about saying they don't have a case, because they do, and then stop stealing.
