Most people in prison are there for drug possession a victimless crime. Rapists and murderers often get lesser sentences |

You could pack even more in if you minced them up first ..that would save a fortune in taxes that could them be spent on new hospitals..schools..and heaps more.
You could also get them out sweeping the roads and cleaning toilets..you know all the crappy stuff ! |

Clearly the prison building programme and the projected criminality rates have got out of step.
This might suggest that money could be made by investors building private prisons, and why not farm out the excess prisoners to other countries that have space in their prisons. Could be worth reopening Devil's Island, and some of the Gulags, maybe? |

I can tell by the responses here that there are many people that have no idea what prison is really like. I agree that they don't do nearly enough to deter offenders from returning but it is all our own faults. We have too many bleeding-heart liberals that set the standards on what is considered cruel or inhumane making the rules. I am a correctional officer in the state of North Carolina. I know several inmates with far more than a twenty year sentence attending college classes at taxpayers expense while I can't afford to send my children to college. I can imagine if an old family friend were to ask where Johnny is, they can honestly say "Oh, he's off to college". They don't tell you that on their website though. All they say is that they encourage inmates to get their GED while they are incarcerated. As for the video games, I haven't saw those in the prisons, yet!!! |

yeah.....I think theres too many luxuries inside now for there to be a real deterrent.More prisons need to be built ......once a lifer, always a lifer.
oh...and legalise it,Alcohol causes far more problems than certain illegal substances |

Offending, not re-offending is what you should have put. Better watch out, bad grammar is soon going to be a capital offence along with the dozens of other ridiculous laws this government has sneaked in whilst weve been distracted by global warming and Iraq. You'll want a playstation when it's your turn! lol |

We should just start executing prisoners en masse. One bullet to the back of the skull where the spinal cord meets the brain. |
