Well, ignoring all of the "Don't lie" (um, duh guys) answers...

The Mythbusters touched on this in an episode. To give you the short version, they tried everything from sticking yourself with a pin in your shoe when you were being honest (to increase your heart rate to match when you were also lying), to pretending you were telling the truth, to practically trying to trance your way out of it, and nothing worked. In the end, the indicators from the test were too constant over all three volunteers and failed each of them.

That is they very short answers, but for more you should visit the Mythbusters' website (posted below). Additionally, the Discovery.com website had a video explanation of how a polygraph works, which could give you a little more insight into why the most popular methods of beating a polygraph didn't work.

..... your eyes will look to the upper left if you are telling the truth. because your brian is accessing the informational, and truthful part of your Brain. If you lye, you brain eyes will look to the upper right, the creative side of the brain. So try to casually look straight and to the upper left. but don't do it too often or they will know your trying to look like your telling the truth. Make sure you blood pressure, hand movements, and blinking and breathing rate does not increase. don't try to slow them or speed them up down. Act normal. if you try to change any of your normal bodily actions they will know. you need to make yourself genunily think that your telling the truth. there should be no doubt in your mind the you are lying. This should help you pass.

make your breathing veeeeeeery slowed down. you must practice this well before so you know how to do it. the slower you can make your breathing the more relaxed your heart will be.

be honest... however, i went for one for a job and I got called out onthings I thought i was being honest about but answers I lied and it came out ok.... depends on how hard they rely on them... be honest and hope for the best

don't know if this works but maybe have a yes or no question in your head and ask yourself that and answer yourself that that might work (please don't say you are in jail for killing people or a pedophile)

I got an idea on how you can pass it ...Don't Lie! If thats not a possibility, then you can resort to plan B. It's well known in the world of espionage, that in order to beat the lie detector test, you need to alter the electrical current from the leads back to the recorder. The most accepted way to do this is to take urine (it should be your own due to the pH) and massage it all over your body, especially where the leads are going to be placed. This offsets the normal transmission of impulses by slightly changing the pH of the skin. Good luck. I hope this helps you beat your rap.

pretend to yourself what you're saying is true, find out how they work before hand, apparently they will ask you trivial questions that ppl always lie to to find out what ur lies sound like, e.g. have u ever shoplifted, maybe awkward questions about your personal life. try to fool it here because then it will have trouble deciding which are really lies or not. do looadsa research. don't be an obvious lier. another tip is if it asks you, *for example*, "have you ever dealt drugs", and your answer is "yes", pretend it said, *for example*, "are you gay?" or "do you like Iron Maiden", where your answer might be "no". Also, do consider just telling the truth, you will probs get into less trouble telling the truth than being caught out. hope this helped :)
