How do I sort out a parking dispute outside my house?

A guy who lives across from me with his parents has a van which he parks outside my house (on opposite side of road) making it very hard for me to get out of my drive. He is also parked on a bus stop and his van is 1 of 4 the family own (2 vans on his drive, the problem van and the family car parked in the road outside his house. Note the van is a rust bucket N reg and is an eyesore. Incidently the problem van is parked 20 metres from his house so he cant see the bleedin thing.. yet I can...Help.

every time your going out knock and ask him politely if he would mind moving his van for you to get off your drive, after a couple of weeks he'll be so sick of you knocking he might start to leave enough space for you

How about speaking to your local Council - without mentioning names and addresses but purely to ask their advice?

Warn him about the unsavoury characters who have been eyeing it up, it's a bit of a blag, but he might move it closer to home so he can keep an eye on it......<*j*>

call the cops

If the van is taxed and insured (and not parked in the bus stop) there is nothing that you can do

talk to your local council

If you have a drop kerb, it is an illegal offence to park outside of your house. If you don't have a drop kerb, it's not. I have the same problem day in day out.

keep doing stuff to his van until he has to put it nearer to his home so he can catch the culprit be carefull and it will work, good luck.

Make anon call to police reporting an abandoned vehicle. Better still, call a tow company from a payphone, use his name, tell them your van broke down and you need it fixed. Hilarity ensues.

theres not really anything that you can do, if he has paid road tax he can park where he likes, i would however, mention to him in passing that would he mind moving it up just a bit as you are experiencing a problem getting off the drive, be nice about it and he may be ok with it, if he gets shirty then take another action and slash his tyres!!!!! hahaha, only joking!
just speak to him it may be that he doesnt know he is causing such a problem

Firstly, you should do everything in your power NOT to antagonise your neighbours. it's surprising how these little niggles can quickly escalate into full blown feuds with car scratching, silent calls, faeces through letter boxes etc. People are WEIRD when it comes to cars and car parking. so beware.

I'd have a word with your local "community policeman". But in reality, unless he's causing an obstruction I doubt if much can be done.

Remember what i said though- problems with neighbours can affect your mental wellbeing and your health. Don't go there.

Nothing you can do.

You can report him when he breaks the law, such as parking at a bus stop. But realistically the council/police/bus company will not do much about it.

Things such as his family owning 4 cars, it being rusty and N reg and it being 20 metres from his house are irrelavent. So you need to peel away those emotive statements to see what facts you are left with to lodge a complaint.

You'll probably be left with he's parking a legal car legally. So no cause for compalint. upsetting, but nothing you can do.

Be thankful its not a parking problem inside your house!

Obstruction of traffic, your clear view to back out of your own driveway. you might want to talk to your local police about this. Take pictures, get plate number and house addresses before you go. Police are usually pretty good about helping.

tie a rope to it and drag it out of the way then remove the wheels and hold them to ransome

if it is road legal nothig can be done unless it goes across your drive

I'd check with your local council. In my area it's illegal to park opposite a driveway.

If this is the case then you can ask the local laws officer to step in and get the guy to park correctly or they may just issue him with an on the spot fine.

And if it is out of Rego, the cops can put a 'Cannery' sticker (Unroadworthy Notice) on it and fine him. He will have to move the van onto private property or it will be towed away.

Might make it easy to get out of your driveway :-)
But won't make the van look any better. Sorry :-(

send an anonymous letter 2 ur council about the problem so he wont know who did it, but will most likely be made to move it. i wouldnt go up to him and tell him 2 move it cos to own 4 vans is a bit dodgy o_O

throw eggs at the van, then when they come out, call the cops and have them deported since they are probably iilegals
