How do I sue my Ex for beating me up and leaving scars on my face?

It was not an accident. It was domestic abuse. He punched me in my face until he cracked my jaw and gave me stitches. I didn't call the cops but he did sign that promisary note (admitting fault and promising to pay for the hospital bill. No lawyer around me would take an assult case...I tried for hours. I assume I need to go to a small claims court and sue for pain and suffering and deformation but I dont know where to start

This happened about a year ago. I didnt call the cops because I was fearing for his life but he DID sign the note saying that he was responsible for my injuries

check statute of limitations on assault/domestic violence in your state. If it is past, then you cannot do anything Check both criminal law and civil law. If the statute of limitations has not run out yet, file a police report. And go from there.

Then with in a day or two after the doctor says he or she is done with you and have you family doctor take care of anything that may need follow ups on

you don't have a case ... you didn't call the police and file a report. Not even the ambulance chasing lawyers will take the case .. that is your first clue that you don't have a case.

Small claims is for a set amount. It sounds like you need more then a few thousand dollars. You would have to show a proponderance of proof that your husband did this and I don't know if the paper he signed would hold
up in court as your husband could say you forced him to sign this
This needs to be addressed by a real lawyer who specializes in domestic
violance. There is shelters for battered women. You can always seek help if you are a battered women~it might take a little work but there is agencies who care for the people like you ~good luck

If you didn't file an assault charge and get a police report, you have no proof that will stand up in court... you won't get anywhere in small claims court...

1. Go for a thorough medical checkup and keep the reports with you. this would help you in your case.

2.FIle a complaint against him in the nearest police station. Explain the whole situation to the cops and also mention that u are not safe with him.

Rest will be taken care by the judiciary.
