i went to the doctor and he proceeded to discuss some very personal info in front of the person i took with me. if i would have known he was going to ask about these things i would have asked the person to leave, but he just blurted things out with no regard to my privacy or feelings what do i do?

Doctor-Patient privilege exists only if the confines of that privilege stay confidential. When you allowed for a third party to come into the room, all confidentiality went out of the window and that information is no longer privilege. It is not the responsibility of the doctor to ensure this privilege as you have the right to waive it t your leisure. It would have been better professional conduct to tell you the consequences of your actions, but that would have been a courtesy not an absolute necessity on the part of the doctor. |

Next time go alone. If you take someone with you to the doctor, is natural for him to assume that you're willing to share your medical situation with that person. It's not his fault if you have bad judgment. |

I don't think he violated your privacy. He must have assumed that as you allowed this person into the doctors room with you,you were comfortable to talk in front of them. Most people would make the people wait in the waiting room if they were going to discuss something private with the doctor. From all the doctors i've seen only a few ask whether i am prepared to talk in front of the person i have with me. Just as i know when i let the people come to the appointment with me i am fine to talk about anything with them present. |

My wife went true infertility treatment, and while Dr. did the Sonohysterogram and she's being naked in a vulnerable position the a women walked in and stays there to the end and the Dr showed her what he checks and how, in other words training her.
She never interduced herself or the purpose of her being there, nor has the dr informed my wife of this women who will accompany him on the treatment, my wife turn red and white turning away her face in shame not able to say a word about it, we are very hurt and offended, my wife is scared to continue with her treatments,
What ahold we do about it we feel a breach in patient confidentiality,
