It isn't the citizens that don't want to accept federal money - it's the governor. He is getting ready for a run for the white house in 2012 and he's a lame duck governor. The SC legislature and those of us that live here want the stimulus money. |

Oh please!! We're talking about two different TYPES of fed funding. This is typical 21st Century whining coming out of the US.
Yes, actually I do know what FEMA is, I am a citizen of the US (to stealth) you moron. However, I'm old enough to know that the trend in the US is gimme, gimme whine, rather than stand on your own two feet and make something of yourself. On the other hand, forcing money to states in order to take control of them is different than pouring FEMA money into counties who are on their knees, business and individual, due to natural disaster. |

A governor of any state that does not accept fed funds to bolster aid to his own citizens at the expense of "politics" should be voted out of office. Most states are seriously lacking funds even for unemployment benefits for their laidoff workers or for any other state aid projects. I don't see any problem with the federal government investing in their own people for a change...As for FEMA, I drove through a back road in Arkansas last weekend. Guess where the 11,000 mobile homes are for disaster relief for Hurricane Katrina victims? They are sitting in a cow pasture rotting from non-use. |
