How do you feel about THE SUPREME COURT RULING ON GUNS?

Opinions, thoughts, input and your feelings?

I found it interesting that 4 of 9 voted against it. That is actually a frightening thought.

So let me get this right, Judge...you are saying that an honest person has no right to own a gun? But they can buy alcohol and then get in a car and drive home...with no supervision?

Philip McCrevice
I find it despicable that 4 Liberal Justices voted to ban guns from private citizens.

Very disturbing that we came that close to losing our Constitutional right to bear arms.

It should have been 9-0. What the h*** is wrong with these black robbed legislators acting as judges? This thing isn't over yet. The left still wants guns outlawed and the fights at local and state levels are just getting started--watch

The reality of life in America is that bad guys can get guns anytime they want them, lots of them.

Since I don't want to be shot by some psycho, without the opportunity to shoot back, I am strongly in favor of the SC's decision.

People should have the right to bear arms. What the supreme court ought to outlaw are idiots who feel the need to turn on "Caps Lock" when answering a question.

I am happy that the Supreme Court upheld the 2nd Amendment rights that were granted to us.

The cities and states still have the authority to limit hand gun possession, purchasing rules and carry permits, etc...

The Supreme Court's decision simply stated that a state or city can't deny completely the individuals right to own a gun as was the case in Washington D.C.

I agree with it.
The 2nd amendment exists whether frightened pessimists like it or not.
The 'organised militia' preamble does not list this as THE reason for the right, only as A reason for the right. Implying there may be other reasons too. The second statement is unambiguous, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

Besides, is it any coincidence that in places where gun rights are most curtailed, violent and predatory crime actually goes up?? Denying responsible people the right to effectively protect themselves only serves to make them more vulnerable to criminals.

I am happy the supreme court agreed to enforce the condition and our second amendment rights. While I have no desire to have a gun in my home, I believe the spirit of that amendment was to keep the government from allowing us to protect ourselves. I'm glad the majority of the court felt the same way.
It also makes me laugh when I hear them talking about all the gun crimes in cities like Chicago where the ban was in effect. If the ban was so successful why do they still have gun crimes?

Torn.

As my husband would say, I am a hippie. I want to world to get along, peace, love, green food etc. If there were no guns, there would be no gun crime. Obviously, this philosophy is flawed however, because as soon as a gun ban is enacted, all law abiding citizens would turn over their guns. The only people armed then would be law enforcement, and criminals. That just sounds scary.
I was however, raised in the company of firearms. My father, an avid hunter, taught me to load and fire a muzzle loader at the fragile age of eight, and went on to shoot several different kinds of riffles, shotguns, and the occasional handgun. My mother was a police officer, so as children, we were taught to respect it, and to stay away until we were older and learned proper gun ettiquite. Now, if everyone had to learn about gun safety, and was raised with a healthy knowlege and respect, I would have no problem. The problem arises when you have people with no common sense that allow for theft, access to thier children, and don't learn the proper way to treat a gun.
That being said, I am glad that the supreme court still seems to have the constitution in mind when making these decisions, but I also believe that more education should be envolved with owning a gun, and stricter laws reguarding responsibily, for example theft, misuse, and locking them up.

Guns in the wrong hands scare me, but no person being able to defend there family or home land against criminals scares me even more.

I have to say, I am a little more liberal than conservative and I am a Democrat but that being said, I do not know WHAT the heck they were thinking to even hear such a case!

The Constitution and Bill of Rights is what our country is supposed to live by and the last time I checked, our right to bear arms was included.

Look at England...You can outlaw guns but people can still get them. I enjoy going to the shooting range and cannot imagine having that right taken away. Rediculous. Shouldn't they ACTUALLY be doing something constructive instead of debating the rules actually in place?

It is amazing that we came that close to losing the right to bear arms. The four that voted against it have no place on such a high court. A lot of people criticize Bush for many different things but the one great contribution to society he made was the nominations of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Alito just think how different things could have turned out had John Kerry had the oppurtunity to nominate another liberal judge. It easily could have been 6-3 in favor of upholding the ban! Thats a scary thought.

I completely agree with the decision and am only saddened by the fact that it wasn't unanimous. I find it ironic, though, that the voted (by the hair of their chinny-chin-chins) against the ban on handguns while only a few days ago voted that child rapists can't be executed. Instead of a "learned group of justices", it seems that their rulings are based on which side of the bed they got up from.

Doesn't it say that a "ban" on handguns is unconstitutional?

Well that would be OK with me if all crimes and criminals were apprehended, found guilty, and punished appropriately and swiftly. At least that's how I see it so far.

But I'm interested in other opinions.

I AGREE BECAUSE EVRYONE SHOULD OWN A GUN THAT IS RESPONSIBLE. ANY 14 YEAR OLD CRIMINAL CAN GET A GUN WITH NO PROBLEM. I THINK THEY OUGHT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE LOOPHOLE IN THE SYSTEM WHICH ALLOWS PEOPLE TO PURCHASE FIREARMS WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO REGISTER THEM AT GUNSHOWS. YOU CAN GO THERE AND BUY ANY GUN YOU WANT.

The ruling is that the law which forbid handgun ownership in D.C. was unconstitutional. I agree with, but the reasoning was not valid.

The 2nd amendment was for state run militias right to have armaments. In the early days of this country there were no national armies they were all state run. The Constitution was written, but had to be 'ratified' by the individual states due to there was no congress yet. So the survival of the states was protected by this amendment. This militia has become the National Guard.

That being said, within the 'spirit of the constitution' there is language that the rights of the individual must be protected and that includeds self preservation (defense). Most people of that time own rifles and handguns, they were new settlers in a new land. It was common is 'live of the land' buy hunting.

So he ruling is correct, but he interpretation is invalid. No one wants individuals to be 'armed' with unlimited types of weaponry.

I feel the ruling is shallow and pedantic.
