How do you feel about the amnesty bill?
|
Are you against it? Do you even know what it is? (Hint, it deals with illegal immigration) Are you for it? Why, or why not? Additional Details Don't you think that Congress needs to do something. H3ll wi amnesty-- by doing nothing, only more illegals will come. The US needs a fence, and also needs a tough illegal immigration policy. However, you do have to think about how much tougher policies would cost, and also how it would affect certain industries.

Frankly, I'm glad it's dead. Offering amnesty is simply not a solution to the problem.
I saw another on Yahoo Answers that I believe put it best:
"Calling an illegal an immigrant is about the same as calling a drug dealer an unlicensed pharmacist." |

Honestly, I believe it's totally stupid to even address it as long as the borders are still as open as they are. After all, you would turn the water off before fixing a leak, right? How else could you manage it. Also, I have a problem with people costing me, the taxpayer a lot of money for resources and benefits and not even being documented so that they can pay taxes themselves. I truely believe that America is a land of opprotunity for anyone who wants to be here. I really do. And I don't have a problem with that. But, however slow the system is, there is a system for it. Come one and all, but please do it legally and documented. Otherwise we have no idea who we could be bringing into the country (ie: Terrorists, more drug dealers and criminal, like we don't have enougn of our own and so on). Also, I've noticed a huge difference between the immigrants of today and those of yesterday. Years ago, when my grandparents came here, they respected the laws and made an honest effort to integrate themselves into the country. And no, they didn't have to give up their culture to do so. But they also didn't expect this culture to cater to them. They honestly wanted to be here, not just for a job or benefits but to be a part f something they felt was good in the world. A lot has changed since then. |

We did it once and all it did was increase the flood of illegals. I am very much against it and also the workers program. The workers program will cause a problem in the years to come because the US government cannot seem to make laws and keep them when it comes to illegals. They aren't even good in this time of war at keeping out illegals. It is just a lazy way of not making the Mexican government or people angry. That is where the majority of illegals are coming from but it affects other government and peoples also. What good are laws if we don't uphold them? |

I'm glad it's been blocked, but the underlying problems remain. |

I'm agianst it. It only encourages more illegal immigration, it's expensive, it does nothing for the general good. |

This morning's vote did NOT 'kill' the immigration bill. That vote did block the senators from limiting debate on this bill thus 'rushing' it through into law.
There are many undesirable provisions in this proposal including earmark (porkbarrel spending) amendments.
These earmarks are in the way of bribes to certain senate seats to sway the vote on cloture to 'yea' and the earmarks include excessive spending on _unrelated_ issues.
The vote against cloture was, indeed, a victory for the democratic process and it did show our elected 'representatives' that they are supposed to _represent_ us. |

It was a travesty and I am glad it's gone. Now, I want to know why President Bush and ALL members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have a problem with enforcing our current immigration laws! |

Ding dong the bill is dead, the amnesty bill is dead, ding dong the amnesty bill is dead. Yes I understood and I actually read everything that was available and read it line by line. I am glad it is dead, now the politicians need to secure the border and enforce the laws we have the books. When they have shown us they are capable of enforcing current laws, then we may consider something new. This exercise has been a major wake up call for America and I suspect a major surprise to a bunch of stupid politicians who thought they were bigger than they really are. |

i think they should just leave the whole issue alone it would never work out, immigrants always find ways of coming back we should concentrate on other important stuff like the troops who r still fighting for God knows what now |

I'm glad the amnesty bill was flushed for two reasons:
1. It wouldn't have done anything to solve the problem, it would've just added another layer to one of the biggest clusterf***s in our country today and
2. Bush has pretty much a 0% of being remembered for anything "positive" (yes, in his backwards world, that bill was a "positive" step)
It had about as much chance of passing as one would have trying to make the average Bush supporter literate
