I am not in favour of my DNA being added to the goverment data base. Some things needs to remain private especially if there is no reason for the goverment to have this information. The big brother thingy is taken a bit too far nowadays. Our freedom is limited by these intiatives. There will always be a level of risk for any person and we have to be allowed to take these risks. Giving in to these intiatives makes our world smaller every day. I can understand that this may be needed once you've done something that requires this (criminal etc) there are no need for the goverment to know more than what they already know...it is indeed a need to know situation I think..and in my case they do not need to know. |

Looks like an eventual case of us against them, them against us. I say we act now before they get any stronger. |

Invasion of my privacy.
The government has no right to any of my information outside of what is necessary to tax me. I am a law abiding citizen and have done nothing to forfeit my right to privacy. |

They already have my DNA but i don't worry, they have probably lost the record of it anyway like they lose everything else personal |

I used to be in agreement with DNA being taken at birth - along with all of the other bloods - thinking that it would be a great idea that everyone's DNA would be on record in case of future crimes. I also thought that cameras on all street corners were a good idea to help prevent criminal activity and that Identity Cards were a great concept too. And then I realised that innocent people were increasingly being treated more like criminals and having their rights ignored and taken away. Children in many UK schools now have to thumb-scan for registration and meals. There are discussions regarding the use of 'lie detectors' on people who claim benefits and few of our security cameras appear to capture sufficient footage to convict offenders and yet we continue to lie back and accept more and more restrictions. What became of being 'innocent until proven guilty' I wonder? And more importantly, where will it all end? |

Everyone should be DNA registered at birth.....wouldnt it make crime easier to solve..?..only the criminals would have anything to fear...
and anyone who bleats right to privacy is a selfish p...lock..! |

I hate the idea, I also hate all of the surveillance that we are under these days.
It`s no more than an annoyance at present. BUT if in the future we get a totallitarian goverment- not beyond the realms of possibilty. Think of Germany in the 30s- everything is in place for them to control the population.
Don`t mock it. It could happen sooner than you think. |

It bothers me a bit; a step towards a Big Brother state? It's a very hard question |

I don't think its about whether I have anything to hide or not. I believe this is more a matter of infringing on my fourth amendment. I do not like people pissing on my rights.
*note* if everyone above me really has no problem with it, then the Bill of Rights means nothing to them I guess. Perhaps we should scratch The 4th, or maybe we should just throw the whole thing out. |

Dude, if they can mange to get everyone they arrest into the system then I might start to worry about them getting my DNA.
Here in TN, they introduced legislation stating that DNA samples are to be taken at every arrest and entered into a database- well all of law enforcement is not collecting those samples because the law is so vague no one can figure out who is really responsible- the arresting officer (whether it be city or county) , the booking officer or the jailer.
Then the TBI who would handle all the samples that have been collected is so far behind it'll take 6 months or more for the samples they have to be processed and maybe more than a year for them to be cataloged.
I don't think it bothers me to have my DNA added to the database that information could be used to identify my dead body one day..
ADD: Only if the microchip emitted slimming vibes would I even consider it. |

To the 1st part of your question, I beleive we should ALL have our DNA in the government database. That would help to solve crime more easily, prove it easily in court and prevent crime too as criminal would think twice before killing/raping/stealing...
But within our home, we shouldn't have camera. That's our private life.
Ever see movie "minority report"? That is extreme on detecting crime before it happen, but the fact to be all tagged at some point is really reassuring.
Somehow, we are "spied on", if government wants, as with technology, anyone can be traced but detecting mobile phone signals, even if switch off. Each time anyone use credit/debit card, it's recorded time and place, registration of the car on cctv...
Only criminal refuse safety measures |

I'm ok with that, I think its a good idea. That's how the Suffolk murderer got caught....his DNA was on the database for nicking money. I would not feel happy about a government camera in my home nor a chip on my arm but hey... if I was a criminal then I wouldn't have too much to say on the matter. |

To be honest I don't really have a problem. I'm sure it will only worry people that have something to hide. It's the same with Id cards, but people don't realise they appear on cctv over 300 times a day anyway. |

HAHA smedrik, the jokes on you,TAxing you is the illegal part, wingnut, the DNA is a vouluntary act,god forbid there is another 911 and theres 3000 + bodies or body parts to identify, give that some thought before you go off on the government and your rights,Id sure as hell want my family to know if i were among a mass of dead or not, asap, woudnt you?or to be excluded from a crime, without reproach??HMMMMM???but i forgot, its all about your "rights",god forbid the government or anyone else for that matter try to protect your life and well being, that would be unheard of!! |
