How exactly do i prove i looked for someone so i can serve them through publication?

I have had no contact with my sons biological father for 4 years except to renew restraining orders.I now need to file for sole custody ASAP. So I cant find him and have to serve him through publication in order to do that i have to prove i have looked for him. I'm wondering how to prove i have looked for him through the internet?Prove i looked in the phone book? Looked at the online obituaries? Hoe do i prove it?

I've known people to just put a classified in the newspaper. He's got a chance to read it. If you're filing for sole custody, why can't the courts find him and serve him? I wouldn't think it would be your job to hunt him down. You're not asking him to give up his parental rights, just get sole custody. If his restraining orders have been renewed, somebody knows where he is.

As I understand it the law varies by state as to where you have to publish notice and how long you have to run the notice. You really need the advice of an attorney on this matter.

The law varies from state to state. I know sometimes you just file an affidavit in which you swear under oath that you tried to contact him in such and such a way, and end it with "signed under the pains and penalties of perjury". You should also send notice to the last known address you knew of for him.

Naturally it would be best to have an attorney.
