In the McCartney case it isn't, i cannot understand how she can get all this money and it's still not resolved because he is contending the privacy part of the agreement, he doesn't want her writing a book, or giving out any information to friends, family who can sell on the story. I think she's a gold digger and he should have given her at most Â£10 million and provision for the child and that's it.

I always thought Heather Mills was in it for the money and the fame, as to receive around Â£60 million for a few year of marriage seems ridiculous wrong. if i was Paul Mac, I'd make sure she didn't have a leg to stand on !!!!

Because a marriage is you and your partner becoming one person.

You are building a life together and when you divorce the court is trying to give both parties a fair start at their new life even if the money is divided unfairly.

The whole point of getting married is because you love that person so much you want to be together forever and be a family. The court assumes that you know that person well enough for making such a decision to spend the rest of your life together.

As a couple of people already stated, it's half the assets earned WHILE MARRIED, not half the assets in general. Anything that was his before the marriage stays his after the marriage, so you're info is way off, at least in the U.S.

It's not very fair, if she had given up her freedom, career and raised a family then maybe so but in the Mcartney - Mills case I think it is grossly unfair. The courts in this country encourage women to declare domestic violence so they can get maximum pay off. A heated verbal aargument is classified as domestic violence. My husband has been going through the courts for three years trying to get access to his son because of his ex claims domestic violence simply because they had verbal arguments! the courts have become extremely unreasonable in this country not looking at sensible facts like length of marriage, contributions by both parties and children. I was married 18 years before I divorced 5 years ago and i didn't get 50% even though I made equal contributions and raised our child.

In any case, why does an old idiot like him need Â£825 million, it's obscene, you can't say he's earned it. He's stolen it from gullible people over the years who have had to pay through the nose for a recording.

In most states it doesn't work that way. Any property acquired before marriage is individual property. Any property acquired AFTER marriage is divided evenly.
