We have enough problems with alcohol.
Why make things worse by legalizing another drug? |

Because prohibition didn't work in the past, lol. |

It is possible to have a glass of wine, or a mug of beer, and still be able to function without putting yourself and others at risk of harm.
However, try doing a bong hit of some killer weed and see how well you function.
Having a slight marijuana buzz is dangerous and harmful. |

Alcohol isn't a million times worse. They both are terrible in their own ways. |

The reason is that the government has control over alcohol. You can't have control over something that will grow anywhere. |

It really doesn't seem to make any sense. Marijuana is MUCH less harmful than alcohol, and legalizing it could have several positive effects on America.
I think the main two reasons are that alcohol is much more culturally acceptable than marijuana, and that marijuana is not as easy to control. Americans have drank as long as the country has been around. However, marijuana has been demonized as a violent drug used by lower class delinquents, and has been subject to so much propaganda that after a while people just started to believe it, even though hemp had been an extraordinarily useful crop to the United States throughout its history.
And it's much easier to grow marijuana than it is to brew/ferment your own alcoholic beverages. |

Neither the tobacco nor liquor industries want the competition from marijuana cutting into their profits. They have powerful lobbies and spend a lot of money making sure that marijuana doesn't get legalized. Combine this with a basically ignorant electorate and you have the hypocrisy you're talking about. |

Supply and Demand on a political level. Nothing to do with good or bad, just what more voters are inclined to believe than others. The marijuana issue has been repeatedly put to a vote in various states, and has been repeatedly voted down. The reasoning of the voters has no bearing, just the number of votes. |

Alcohol was illegal, but the social problems increased 10 fold and people just bootlegged the stuff. People staged a bit of a revolution and prohibition was repealed. Google Prohibition. Learn your history. |

The government can't tax marijuana...it's too easy to grow on your own. |
