This is a joke, right? No 6 year old is old enough to look after himself alone, much less look after his younger brother! If this is not a joke, then your neighbor did the completely right thing and, hopefully, the courts will require you to take some parenting classes before returning custody of your children to you.

The neighbor did what was appropriate. A six year old is incapable of emergency problem solving. If you don't believe me, talk to a firefighter. When a fire breaks out, and the parents are not around, or asleep, the child's first instinct is to hide, and under the bed, or in the closet is where the body will usually be found. It is the same for other types of emergencies.

There is not a six year old on this planet that is prepared for a responsibilty such as taking care of another human being regardless of how mature you think he or she is. Your responsibility is to provide a safe, secure and loving environment for your children and you failed to do this.
I hope that the police and the prosecutors take it as far as they can and that you get what you deserve.
I will pray for your children in the hopes that they never have to be in your care again until you wisen up.

In the UK, the offence is "Cruelty to or neglect of children". The general Police view is that if you leave a child alone, it shouldn't be anyone less than a teenager, and then it should be decided whether or not that teenager is sensible and responsible enough to be left alone, or look after younger children. Most certainly aren't mature enough, but there are the odd few that are way beyond their years and would do a very good job.

6yr old's are not permitted to 'baby -sit' and you should not

Are you on Drugs or something. Never Ever you child home a lone to watch his brother I don't care how old they are. IN the state i am in you would have been arrest for child neglect, abutment, abuse. A child has to be 12 to stay home a lone and that is one for about 2 or 3 hours tops. so you do the math. Who is more important your kids or a woman that might not stay a while. I hope for your sake you learn from this don't repeat it.
