How long could a 16 year old go away for killing a parent?

if it was premeditated but not terrable brutal as far as murder goes

why?
is this your intention.. because if it is.. just remember that you will get caught and be put away probably for life.. and even if you do get out... Your life will most likely be over anyway... just because most employers will not hire ex cons..
If this is your plan... I would ask you to think again...There are many other ways to handle bad situations, instead of murder.. |

A 16 year old will be tried as an adult, in UK anyway anyone over 10Yrs is tried as an adult because that's when they have decided due to recent cases that they definitely know whats right and wrong. (although i would argue that kids know the difference alot earlier but we English always think kids are alot dumber than they are)
Besides if they are considered insane at the time of the killing (which people think this will mean they will get of lighter - under the mental health act the sentence they are given doesn't actually mean anything. And they can legally be detained for as long as the mental health practitioners and ultimately the Home Office (on the advice of the professionals) decide. So yes it probably would be forever. You would NOT be eligible to get out after the sentence has finished for example.. |

Life - or you could get the death sentence depending on where you live.
You would likely be tried as an adult if it's premeditated. |

Grounded again are you? Go ahead, kill your parents! The state will "ground you for life" with any luck!
At least you are looking into the penalties you will get WHEN you get caught (not if ... WHEN)
Seriously, I'll need some more facts to tell you for sure. What jurisdiction? Mitigating/Aggravating factors ("Post traumatic Stress Syndrome" is hot right now ... can you work a defense based on it?)
As far a brutality goes ... dead is DEAD! That's about as brutal as it gets!
Do you have any money? Enough money will buy a top shelf defense team, complete with investigators and a "certified" shrink who can come up with a psych defense on spec!
To give a complete answer I'll need (at minimum):
1) Jurisdiction! If you are planning to whack your parents, may I suggest the USA!
2) Mitigating and Aggravating factors. remember the jury will have parents on it. You have to paint the victim as the perpetrator of some crime so bad that parents will vote to get you off!
3) Some range of how much you are willing to spend on defense! If you are going to depend on OPD (Office of the Public Defender) you are pretty much screwed. If you have a couple of grand (or a million or so) to hire a "dream team" ... Good things can happen to you! |

Sounds like someone's mind is really messed up.
Dead is dead... is it any less criminal if it is "less brutal". ?? Premeditated? Thought out before hand, to take the life of another human being?
I can't begin to wrap my mind around the wording here, as if "less brutal" somehow minimizes, or excuses the concept.
Teenagers in the US can be tried as an adult. Sentencing then could presumably extend to life in prison, even the death sentence.
The whole concept and question boggles the mind, as to the obvious lack of any concept of accountability or right/wrong. |

Until you are 18 then you are tried as an adult where you will most likely get life if its both parents. |

For life, you are tried as an adult, you spend your first two years in juvenile then u go to a normal prison where u become everyones bit*h
if it was in self defense thats a whole other story |

depending where u are. the advice you're getting is pretty accurate in these answers.
However, "kadensmama3", it is quite possible if a 16 yr old is tried as an adult, the case could be set as a precedent and the death penalty could be exercised.
It varies state by state, country by country. |

You CAN NOT get the death penalty if you are under 18 in the U.S. (Roper v. Simmons 2005). In Oklahoma you can be charged with an adult at the age of 13 for Murder I, but no state can give you death penalty if you are under 18-even if charged as an adult. |
