How long do judges serve on the bench?

I remember when I was 17 a new judge being elected and all--it was a major event in town.

I'm 29 now...and THE SAME JUDGE is still on the bench! Doesn't the city have elections every few years or so to give other lawmen a fair shot at the bench, or is it typical for one person to hog the bench for decades? How often are the elections, anyway???

I'm in the state of Michigan, and it's the Circuit Court judge

It will depend on what TYPE of judge and in what State/County... the STATE or County sets the election term for local judges. Some states appoint judges and others elect them.

We'd need to know the state and what bench the judge sits upon !!

They have elections periodically depending on what type of judge but apparently the judge keeps winning, sometimes if a judge is doing a good job they run unopposed on each election cycle, some judges are appointed.~
