I've never really thought about it. I only take a lunch break and usually end up working through that!
I suppose we should all be entitled to an extra one hour break a day based on the amount of time smokers take off during their 8 hours.
How about the non-smokers get to go home an hour earlier than the smokers then we'd all have put in a true 8 hour day! |

I don't. But I used to smoke and it all started when I worked at a restaurant where the smokers were allowed to take "smoke breaks" every so often and us non smokers had to continue to work. Finally, I said screw it, I'm going to start smoking if it get's me a break once in awhile.
I heard somewhere that people spend an average of 7.5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. Multiply that times how many smoke breaks a week, these people are getting a couple hours off!!! |

I tried the equivalent calling it a fresh air break; but grumpy boss woman soon put a stop to that. It was resolved by the amount of work that was finished at the end of the day by me and the smokers. Life is sweet |

I don't smoke and no-one gets a smoking break. The smokers have to wait for their 2 breaks a day as the rest of us do. |
|

ooooh look @ me, lol

Was a smoker years ago and not one now, but I am working in a no smoking building, so most smokers on certain floors can't be bothered going down for one anyway.lol |

I don't take any break thanks. Yes I go to the toilet and get a drink but so do smokers. |

I work for a company that has a no smoking policy. So employees walk approximately 3 city block off company property to have their cigarette. It takes them approximately 10 minutes to get there, 10 minutes to smoke and 10 minutes to return to work. Most do this 3 times a day. So do I, as a non smoker take 3 - 30 minute breaks a day? NO. I do stop to go the the ladies room once or twice a day. |

I don't. But there have been times I've taken a "smoke break" along with the smokers. Its amazing the amount of information you can obtain in an informal setting. |

I've never heard of such nonsense! I take my given breaks and so do smokers. They smoke on their breaks. I check email, talk on my cell phone, eat something, etc. But a privledge for having a bad habbit? I don't think so! |

I do, when work is slow I make myself a cup of coffee and take a step outside for a few minutes. No one has said anything about it yet.
Hubinski - I did the same thing when I worked as a waiter... I would just go out and take a couple puffs so I could justify a break. Plus it was a good excuse to talk to the hot waitresses. |

I understand that it is unfair to nonsmokers that smokers get to go out for breaks, but smokers are addicts, non smokers are not....this doesn't make it right, but just be happy that you are not addicted to something. I just quit smoking not long ago and am much happier letting the smokers go take breaks while I keep working. If you need a break, ask for it, don't try and blame it on the unfairness of smoker versus nonsmoker, it just makes you sound whiny. |
