How many other people think this is wrong....?

so i work in retail and it gets busy around this time of year like everyone knows. WELL last night i started to get a bad headache and i figured it would go away with sleep.. it didnt, i woke up at 3am with a horrible headache and threw up twice, i fell back asleep until about 7 when i still felt like sh*t, i couldnt keep any food down, so i called into work (four hours before my shift) and told my manager i couldnt come in, she asked why and i told her... she then told me that i was expected to come in because 4 people did not show up... do you think that was right of her do do?

and the thing is - i rarely call in sick, ive worked there (coughKOHLScough) since march 07 and have called in 2 or 3 times. She told me to call her back at 10 which i did, then a different mananger called and she told me to drink tea and i was required to come in for some of my shift... the days over and i still feel like sh*t. People are constantly calling of because of how they treat us. We are very short handed at our store (about 60-70 employees) and on days when we are super busy and have only one person in each department, so we always end up staying til 3 and they dont get off their asses to help us, they just bark orders over the intercom.

NO! She's the manager, it's her responsibility to find other workers. You can't be held responsible for being sick. You should talk to your human resources. That's unethical. Those other 4 people didn't show. Why did you?

She's the boss... to HER it was right... and that is what matters... HOWEVER, if I had been you, I would have dragged my butt into work and VOMITED right in front of her to PROVE you were sick!!!!!

it was not the right thing to do, however, it is close to the holidays. look for a better job, thats my advice.

well this happened to me i went to work and got sick all over the bosses office when i went to tell them i was sick.. they sent me home

depends if you work full time, part time or casual.. do you get sick leave? if so then she has no right to say that.

if your a casual worker she can do what she wants and can sack you for pretty much anything

People without pain, or with higher thresholds to pain are notoriously unsympathetic. As for right or wrong, she was already in a bind, as 4 others beat you to the punch, so she was probably so consumed by her own woes to feel your pain as well.

It sounds like you had a nice migraine going. Might want to discuss that with your doctor. I used to get them something awful. By afternoon, I would hurt so bad I couldn't see! Only thing that would help me by then was a shot at the doctors. Can't remember what they gave me, but they do have medicine for migraines that you can take at home.

Whether it was legal or not, I can't be sure. I understand her situation, though. Before I'd get angry at her, I'd consider why your 4 coworkers were out. I find it unlikely that all 4 of them were sick.

Of course not. Just because other people beat you to the chase doesn't mean you're obligated to come in. If you really want to be spiteful, you could go into work, puke on her, and THEN go home. Sometimes managers can be really stupid, but I think a little puke on the blouse clears up the stupidity pretty quickly (even if temporarily).

you should just come in to work, and possible get sick, throw up on merchandise and this way she'll send you home

OMG No way!! It's not your fault that other people didn't show up for work! If you have to work that day,m i would PURPOSLY throw up on all your customers just to prove to your boss that you are sick, and that you need a manditory vacation, ALONG WITH a pro-back massage each week. I would just quit! Well, i wouldn't but i would think about it ; )

At this time of the year she, too, is between a rock and a hard place. Her staff is no doubt outgunned for the next several days.If you are a migraine sufferer, there are medications. If this is the first time you have had a headache of this magnitude, seek proper medical care.

No not right she had 4 other ones off,but being no one there she depend on you cause your a good worker and there were no one take your place. Hope you are filling lot better.

No. Its not right. Tell her you spoke to your doc and you might be contagious so he advised you to take it easy for the rest of the day. Or, go to work, throw up in the middle of the store and leave. On the way out say OMG! I told you I shouldn't come in as loud as you possibly can! Why did you make me????

My boss bragged that no matter what, SHE never called in sick. I can testify to that....every time she got sick, she came in to work, and before you could get the barf bags out, EVERYONE got sick.

funny the same thing happened to me last week!! they tried doing the same thing to me, so i went to the hospital for it no its not wrong at all you wouldnt been able to work i promise u that.
