How many states have the death penalty and what do you think of it?

do you think it will ever be back in the uk?

I don't know how many U.S. states have it.
I'm British and think that it should be bought back.
The amount of cold blooded killers out there is frightening.
With DNA evidence etc, where it is proven without ANY doubt murderers should be put to death, especially child killers.

not enough have the death penalty......an eye for an eye...if someone kills a person that i care about..they better hope that the law gets them first...

Not sure how many but have real mixed feelings regarding it. If it was my child raped by a peado or anyone raped point blank ,murders then part of me is yeah too right an eye for an eye.. but then you got the problem of making sure that the person you are sentencing to death is really the person who did it, and unfortunately the legal system isn't beyond corruption.

I'm mostly against it, except for cases of psychotic muderers and rapists who show no remorse for what they've done and it's clear that if they ever get out of prison, they're going to keep on doing it. These are the people who really need to be put down. I live in Illinois where the death penalty is still legal.

UK cannot return the death penalty because it is outlawed both by English Law, which would first have to be overturned and also European Law. Americans can decide state by state for themselves - it really is no concern of mine.

The major difference between the US and UK when considering matters of law is that UK has 1000 years of constitutional law whereas the USA has only about 200. In the past in UK you could be hanged for so much as stealing a handkerchief or as was the case with a 12 year old boy in the 1800s, hanged for stealing a lump of coal. The death penalty is out - too many mistakes - too many innocent people hanged.

i don't know how many states but i don't support it. There should be a island for people that bad, let all of them live together. God made us and will take us. Man shouldn't try to be god and say .....give him the death penalty because of whatever.

if it is a murderer or someone horrible like that i do think that they should not live but if the gov't could make it so people test their items on them instead of animals it would be a better cause then just killing them. sounds weird but i dont think they should have the justice to even live in a prison!!

How many states? - I don't know.

What do I think of it? - I think the death penalty is a) justice for certain crimes, and b) can act as a deterrent. I think it should be used, but only for certain extreme offences (e.g. serial killing), and only when there is absolutely irrefutable evidence (as I don't want innocents to be killed. A posthumous pardon is useless).

One thing which I think needs changing under the present system used in America is the amount of time on death row. People on death row are left there for years (at least 10 I think in most cases), which I think is inhumane torture. Having to live knowing you are going to be killed must be awful.

Do I think it will return in the UK? - Probably not. I think there are too many people against it. Any member of parliament who brought it back would commit political suicide.

i think only a few... wyoming and texas are some but i like it... if some1 kills someone they deserve to die, i hope it gets to uk

S S
i doubt it will ever be brought back, personally i dont agree with it, there are instances of falsely accused, innocent people going to jail, mistakes can happen, and verdicts can be over turned in some cases so i think it is abit extreme to just kill criminals off. fair enough some might deserve it, but that is just making us as bad as them!

I'm not sure how many states have the death penalty, BUT YES, I do support it when there is proof positive evidence which leaves no doubt that the person committed the crime. Evidence such as DNA evidence. NOT so much an eyewitness or finger prints. BUT DNA. Finger prints don't necessarily prove beyond a doubt as eye witnesses don't prove beyond a doubt. BUT DNA CANNOT be argued. But if it is a death penalty type crime then yes.

The number in the USA goes up and down depending on who you ask. There are about 34 states in the USA who have the death penalty and who do not have any judicial bar on it (the DP law in both New York and Kansas is currently in abeyance whilst the courts consider whether or not it is constitutional). There are several states where the death penalty, although available, is effectively not in use.

Unless and until the UK disentagles itself from the European Convention on Human Rights, the DP will not return to the UK as, under that convention, it is illegal.

to see lately on the news of police corruption and setting up innocents it is a good thing they stopped the death sentence but i think that they should still only have it for paedophiles
