i got caught on my college campus with less than an ounce of weed.
how much is the fine? will i get my licenses taken away? and will the cops send anything to my house?

The fine is $100, but with assessments that comes to close to $400. If you are under 21, any drug or alcohol offense results in a one year license suspension. Drug convictions can also have adverse effect upon international travel, student loans, etc. Since it is a misdemeanor, you are entitled to appointed counsel if you cannot afford an attorney, and since the collateral effects of a conviction are severe, and there are alternatives to conviction, you probably want to have a lawyer. |

Who caught you? Campus police? City/Sheriff? I don't know if they would impose a fine, but I know that in CA, possession of under an ounce is only a $100 fine. But, 28.5 g or less on school grounds while school open (over 18 years old) is incarceration of 10 days and up to a $500 fine. I'm not sure if that would apply to a college campus, though. I doubt that your license would be in jeopardy for a misdemeanor, unless you were driving at the time you got caught. If your residence is still billed the same as your parents' (assuming that's what you're worried about), then maybe. I would Call the CA chapter of NORML to find out for sure, though. Good Luck. |
