How to Copyright Music/Audio Via the Web?

I friend of mine keep insisting I copyright my stuff online because it is instant and less of a hassle but yet I do not know where it is you go to do this online? Any ideas? I currently do it the traditional way, by mail.

Your thoughts?
Additional Details
By mail I meant via U.S. Copyright Office.

Thanks for the timely response

You do not copyright your material by mail, because there's no such thing.

Your material is legally copyright as soon as you commit it to a permanent medium - ie write down the score or record the audio. What you are doing is *registering* your copyright with the US Copyright office. This is at your choice, but is not necessary in order for your work to be copyright.

If you wish to register your copyright online, you can do so here... http://www.copyright.gov/eco/index.html

Just publish it. Or, if you want, you can go through the U.S. Copyright Office (in the U.S., if you are in a different country, go through their copyright office) and register it for a small fee.

The online method is faster and easier and costs less ($35, compared to $45). What's cool is that you can upload files directly to the ECO, rather than having to mail any CDs in... this saves time and effort. I also like how you can submit several UNPUBLISHED files at once (as long as they're all for the same artist) and not have to pay an additional fee. If they're published, you can only submit multiples for the files that are on that published release.
