No it cant be done online. You have to go to court and apply to have your name changed. Then the court puts out a public notice so that if anyone has a problem with it they can come forward and talk to the court.
The cheapest way to change your name is to wait until you get married. And when you apply for a marriage license you can change your name to whatever you want. Otherwise it is a few hundred I think to change it.

For now you can call yourself C. Isabel Jones (if your last name is jones for example).
So instead of Christina Isabel Jones you call yourself and sign everything
C. Isabel Jones.

And have people just call you Isabel

You would have to go through the court and just file a petion put it in the classified section of the paper.

Contact your LOCAL courthouse for details. The exact process varies by state. In general, you complete a form, publish your intent, and pay a fee. If no one challenges the change, it is simply a formality. If someone claims you are trying to commit fraud, there is a hearing. In your case, there should be no problem.

Yes you can do it yourself and there is a small filing fee at the clerk office you need to file the legal forms at. It can't not be done completely through the internet, but you can get the forms you need to file at - http://www.legalformsbank.biz/namechange.asp - and you can learn more about the legal procedure there too.

You need to go to like the hospital of which you were born in and get your record. It does cost money but Im not sure how much. They have to re print your birth certificate- its a huge complicated process - all those signatures!
