I'm 15 he's 18; expecting our first baby, what can I do?
Find answers to your legal question.

I'm 15 he's 18; expecting our first baby, what can I do?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for over a year, we were recently excited to find out that we will be expecting our first child in feburary. I know this doesn't sound like much of a problem, but here it comes. I'm only 15 and he's 18. I know it doesn't sound like the best situation, but its alot better than most would expect. Now someone told me that nobody could press charges against him, unless my parents wanted to. and they don't, they actually both absolutely adore him. I want to make sure the baby can have his last name, and he can sign he birth certifacate. what are the laws on this? and is there any way that I can make sure those things get done?

and before people start to answer this, im not asking for your apporval of us dating, so if your just going to comment on our age difference don't even bother.

Another thing. I live in G.A. & thank you all so much for being worried about my age, and so forth, but I am well aware of the situation I am in, and no it's no way cute or sweet. It just happened, and I dont believe in abortions. It's apart of life, females were put on this earth to produce. And no maybe I'm not quite ready at my age, but i'm not alone on this. My family and boyfriend have been very supportive. Some people have to go threw this alone and i understand that, but im not. I again, understand what im about to have to go threw, for a 15 year old, this has made me grow up alot more than most would expect. I understand alot more than yall think.

pretty sure your child can take the fathers name.
call the hospital and ask the registration office, they'd know...

Ok girl, yes there is a problem with a 15 year old having a baby. I CAN SAY THIS BECAUSE I was 16 when I had my baby. I was too young and I was older than you. You are wayyy tooo young, you are supposed to be young and having fun.

Stop fooling yourself, you have a hard road and a hard life in head of you.

The best advice I can give is to do what is best for you and your baby. FINISH SCHOOL if possible, don't get an abortion and don't give your baby up for adoption.

I did, (adoption), and have regretted it every day after that-- unless you believe yourself to be irresponsible.

And on the last note (hahha in contradiction to the advice I just gave you), NO ONE can tell you what to do--- Not your boyfriend, not your parents, not your friends and least of all people on Yahoo Qs. Do what YOU believe is right

But there is nothing cute, or romantic, or fairytale like about your situation-- you need to wake up and stop fooling yourself. You are a child and so was I. This is why I can be critical. When I was pregnant though, I actually understood the gravity of the situation I was in.

But good luck trying to make the best of a crappy situation. Blessings, joy and luck to you and your baby.

Get a lawyer or contact a legal aid person to see the rights & responsibilities in this situation.

I notice there's no mention of marriage...perhaps you DO realize you're both too young?

did he promise that he'll always be with you and that he'll get a job and that you two will move in together and take care of the baby with each other? Aww it sounds like a fairy tale don't it? but reality check! it's NOT gonna happen, as soon as you have the baby he'll dump you. I can't believe you're going through with this, and you two actually wanted to have the baby..or was this an accident? DON'T RUIN your life, you're only 15! while all your friends are out partying you're gonna be stuck with a child which you will prob force your parents to take care of. THINK a little bit harder before hoping in bed next time with some guy who says that he loves you.

15 having a child - a child having a child - where are your parents?

It's a good thing you are not asking for our approval, you definitely wouldn't get mine!

FYI: Your parents need to press charges against this man; in the USA in case you didn't know, its called statutory rape!

ANd there is absolutely nothing cute about it! A crime has been committed!

My answer: You can become an emancipated at 16. In many areas you can marry with your parents permission, now. Take parenting classes because no matter how much you love each other you will still need help.

As long as you have a very supportive family you can make it work. Sorry to say the guys usually take off when they realize they are no longer the center of attention... I hope that doesn't happen to you guys.

My friend just came back from a study abroad program she was gone for a year. Her mom watched her little girl for a year. You will be like friends and not so much like parent-child, Not really a good thing.

As far as your age... you are not the first and you won't be the last but it is a very difficult thing you are attempting to do. Be very patient with yourself and everyone around you, and it will all work out.

Don't have any more until you finish college. You will need a good education to make it a success in this life.

Two things about age:

Wisdom comes with age...
We can't teach what we don't know...

all the best,
Karen

umm well im not sure but u know i dnt really think thats possible but it also depends on where u live too so things are different in different places

Wrong if the state wants to press charges they will!! especially if they find out !! Don't let the PA find out or he'll send the big boys after him.

But since he is the child's father yes all paper and document can be signed by him,

If he is the father I don't see the problem with him signing the birth certificate.
As for the name...people are funny about the significance of names, it is possible to legally change your name to "I am toaster" so I wouldn't worry about that.

Sweetie,
I have no comment on your age difference, your character, and I am not approving or disapproving. I am only saying that you will be the mother and you will have the ultimate responsibility to look out for your baby's welfare.

You can and should have the baby's father on his birth certificate for many reasons, chief among these establishing his legal responsibility to care for his child.

The time may come when you and he are not as close. Life continues to move forward and nothing stays the same. You may stay together, but just in case you do not you need to watch out for your baby's interests.

When the baby is born just go ahead and give the name with your boyfriend's last name. That will take care of it. Congratulations.

No don't listen to that idiot abortion is not the answer! I hope this is helpful I was in your same situation i was 16 he was 21 my parents didn't press charges I believe the state could though although its highly unlikely. You should be okay as long as your family doesn't press charges. I don't see why it would be a problem for your baby to have his last name he is the father after all and no one can change that. Good luck and hope everything works out 4 you!

i just think 15 is very young to have a baby. u havent even had a chance to live yet. thats just my opinion, but if u are deciding to keep the baby then u shouldnt have a problem. its not like he's 40 or anything. and if ur parents dont have a problem with it then i think ur fine. i think as long as he's within like 2 or 3 years of u than i dont think there r any laws against it.

nothing just be there for them ad support them watever they decide

David
I'm sure that these things will get done as long as noone presses charges which doesn't sound like anyone will your parents must be awesome though

Xx_Unreal-Fantasy_xX
He should be able to sign the birth certificates etc with him being the biological father, and when you register the baby you choose the name so say the fathers last name,
If you want to be 100% sure go to your local town hall or where ever you can get birth certificates etc, hope i've helped.
And congratulation on the baby :D

xx

brock_ebay
legally i don't think he can sign the birth certificate but once the baby is born I would use your last name and then once you are old enough change the baby's last name, you can get it done for around $50.00.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
