ok, so i joined this group on facebook which was called "we all hate _ _".
this group had quite a lot of members, and i said that i hate him. now this persons dad found out about the group and he's constantly phoning me, threatening me to sue me for slander and libel, in which this isnt. what should i do? I won't get in trouble for this will I?

i know this was a stupid thing to do, but this kid had been bullying me for quite a while in real life. He has been expelled from the school for a couple of months now.

It truly depends on what exactly you said on the forum.
Slander is oral, libel is written or anything that goes to media.
If everything you said about the person is the TRUTH, not guess, not "" heard this from someone who said......" then you have nothing to worry about.
If anything you said was NOT the truth, or you can't prove it was the truth, then you may well be open to civil litigation. |

It honestly depends on what you said on facebook.
It probably wasn't very mature/responsible of you to say whatever you said, and the father probably has a right to be pissed, but I'm not really sure there's much he can do. |

First, this was a very stupid thing to do. How does it feel to be a cyber bully?
Now, it is libel as it is written. If you stated anything that is true, or that is an opinion, then you are OK. Opinions, even if they are mean and baseless, are protected. Things such as "I think #### would be a bad leader" are fine. If you have posted anything that is false, then you could be in trouble. But for a charge of libel to be made, there has also got to be damage caused. If this person were to have a college scholarship withdrawn, for example, because of what you posted, then you could be in trouble. Otherwise, probably not legally but if I were the father, I would be reporting you to the school authorities and this could impact your future. |

First, why would you say that. And who is him? A friend, some guy from school, is he a facebook friend you have?
You're stating an opinion about a person, and in fact, if you honestly hate this person, then it is the truth. If it isn't the truth, say the reason why you wrote, and how it was wrong, etc, etc.
I doubt you will get in trouble. Make the counterclaim he is harassing you with phone calls. |
