I feel Obama is hiding aspects of his life, particularly religion. |

why would it matter if he was muslim |

In America, why should this be an issue? |

who cares about his religion....he's not running for office based on his religion. what's religion got to do with how well a person can run a country??
i seriously wish people would learn to think...
...to answer ravenwings, several posts below me, if this is indeed true, which i do see your point, then we might need to elect an atheist president so he would totally focus on his job and not drag religion into it and certainly not use religion as a means to start a war...not to mention using religion to get elected in the first place as modern presidents have figured out they can do quite effectively. i salute you on that observation! |

He went to a Muslim school because he grew up in a Muslim country. His mother dated Muslim men because she was in a country where most of the men were Muslim. Saying that he's Muslim because he lived in Indonesia is like saying that every person who grew up in the US is Christian. |

His mom was an atheist... just because you marry a person does not make you attracted to their faith. The Muslim school, was just because it was a good school, and it was far from exclusively Muslim.
Its just a guy who had somewhat of an odd childhood, and had parents of a certain religion, that he did not share.
Anything beyond that is mindless smearing. |

There are several inaccuracies in your "question."
Obama did not go to a Muslim high school. Obama attended local schools in Jakarta from ages 6 to 10, where classes were taught in the Indonesian language. He then returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending Punahou School from the fifth grade until his graduation in 1979.
Punahou School, formerly known as Oahu College, is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian college preparatory school located in Honolulu in the U.S. State of Hawaiʻi.
In addition, your question also assumes that Obama's mother married not for love of an individual but for religion. This is generally not true of most people, and would be idiotic to assume in this case also.
Finally, your "question" also assumes that simply being a member of a religion means that a person follows that religion to the extent to be considered religious. Haven't you known any "Christians" who don't attend church, or attend church but do not act in a Christian manner?
You need to think a little bit harder if you think you are fooling anyone. |

Obama's biological father was never a part of his life. His step-father was an acknowledged atheist when he married Obama's mother.
The school he attended was a public school with no focus on a specific religion.

Do you have such little faith, in the Christian religion, that you cannot believe anyone would convert to Christianity?
Or do you think that a person's religion is part of their DNA?
I'm having trouble, understanding your conflict? |

No body's confused. Obama is a Christian. His mother lived in a country that is predominantly Muslim. If she lived in Alabama she probably would have dated Christian men. There's no conflict at all.
Troll on, Sister. |

You're making two mistakes.
1. You're concerned with identity voting
2. You aren't realizing that the US constitution guarantees a seperation of church and state, so it doesn't matter.
Vote for the issues, vote for integrity. Who a person is will always be a larger part of themselves than what a person is. |

He spent a lot of his childhood living with his maternal grandparents in Hawaii, who were not Muslim. Plus, you can go to a religious school without being religious. I know a lot of people who send their kids to Catholic school for the smaller class sizes, not because they're religious.
It is possible to be attracted to a person without being attracted to his religion or taking that religion for yourself.
Anyway, I think it's good that Obama is better acquainted with Islam than most Americans. It's really important for our president to have a good knowledge of Islam because of current events. |

You might be confused because you haven't researched it very well. Barack Obama attended Punahou Academy in Hawaii for high school. He moved to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents at age 10. |

I thought he was Christian from Hawaii...guess i need to read up on that! |

Considering that most of the population in Indonesia is Muslim, he didn't really have much of an opportunity to attend a school that wasn't Muslim. I don't know that his mother was attracted to the Muslim faith as much as she was simply very open-minded and didn't preclude someone from her life because of his religion. Who knows what went through her mind and how she felt as the years rolled on after living in such an environment. I do believe that she encouraged him to explore various religions and cultures and keep an open mind to differences among people - perhaps one of the reasons he is now a member of the UCC religion. It is considered one of the most progressive and welcoming of all the Christian religions. |

Well, his mother did not practice religion and the male figures in his life were 'probably' religious Muslims.
This would somewhat validate his statement, because there was no religious foundation as he was growing up.
He has stated that ever since, he has found his own faith and that he is a devoted Christian. |

Halema, you're grossly misinformed about Obama's background. But that's what you get for watching Fox News. |

I hear many people saying "What would it matter if he were a Muslim? What's religion got to do with running a country?"
Um....has everyone already forgotten good old George W? He's very outspoken about Christianity and often seems to use it as justification for this war in Iraq. What you believe religiously can play a HUGE role in who you are, which can have a massive impact on the courses of action you take--a serious consideration for a president.
This isn't to say that I think a muslim president would or wouldn't be a good thing. To be honest, I really don't know. So instead, i focus on where the candidates say they stand on issues, and look at their past track records of actually following through with what they say they believe. |

Aren't we all confused. Good luck getting the truth out of a muslim. Mohammed commanded his followers to lie to non-believers if it benefits them & islam. Just like Jesus! only totally different...but we're all the same, right? Just completely different. |
