I'm like everyone else, I nick stuff from work, what about you?

I'm like everyone else, I nick stuff from work, what about you?

Some survey or other revealed most people didn't regard stealing things from work as a crime.
My dad nicked stuff (in spite of being a strong believer in law and order),
I nick stuff.
Is it just compensation because people don't believe work pays or recognises them enough?

This is something that really annoys me. I used to know someone whose wife worked in a hospital, this guy was my boss and would have sacked one of his employees for stealing anything, however, when he wanted batteries for the business, he used to ring her up and the next day a full box of 24 would arrive in the office. How hypocritical can you get. After all it is all of us who are paying our taxes and NI contributions to pay for this dishonesty. I am afraid it is a sign of the times that people think it is acceptable to do this type of thing. |

I am 51 and have never stolen from work or anywhere else
taking things from where you work is one of the reasons
you feel underpaid.
they are spending profits to replace stolen items |

no...........it's stealing plain and simple
if i were so concerned with being compensated, i would not donate so much.
i work in an elementary school. i read somewhere that teachers will spend an average of $500.00 out of their own pockets each year. let me assure you, it's much more than that. |

I go home from work with pens in my pocket all the time, it is never deliberate but i suppose that it can still be considered stealing as i only remember to bring some of them back.I would not consciously take things from work though as when it is noticed it cast suspicion on all the employees. and also i would not like something stolen from me.
I know that all stealing is wrong but i think it is worse if you are working for a small family business and stealing from them compared to a massive company |

In my experience, people who don't steal from work, tend to steal from their own family. Employers expect to have stuff taken and take that into account. Stealing from your own family can break up relations for life. It tends to be the less intelligent in society who steal from their own family, the ones who make it to management; because they also steal, and take credit for, other people's ideas. |
