I'm taking a ticket to court for a crime I did not commit, what should I do?

I was with my friend at around 9:45pm in downtown Nashua NH and he told me to change lanes. So I changed lanes but I revved my engine as I changed lanes because I like to hear my intake. Apparently the police officer who heard the intake didn't like it. He pulled me over and asked for my license and registration. I did everything you're supposed to do when you get pulled over. I'm also in the U.S. Army so I flashed my military I.D. when I pulled out my drivers license (I keep my military I.D. in front of my drivers license). The police officer told me he was going to write me up for reckless driving, which shocked me I was expecting a warning, then the officer said it was my lucky night so he was going to charge me with tailgating so I could get a small fine of $100. The only problem was I never tailgated anyone and I know the officer gave me the charge of tailgating to lessen the fine, there were no cars in front of me or around me at the time, I know this for a fact because I was at the front of the intersection at a red light when the cop pulled up to me so it would have been impossible for me to have "tailgated" someone. I'm taking this ticket to court but I'm not sure if I should go with the cop's fake story or to go with the real story of me revving my engine. I know the cop hooked me up with a tailgating charge, he knows I didn't tailgate anyone. I'm not sure what my story should be in court. I live in Massachusetts and this incident happened in New Hampshire. I can't afford a higher insurance rate I have to get this ticket dismissed. Please help!

if you go with the tailgating your insurance wont even go up. wreckless driving it prob will....no matter what there is no denying that you weren't wreckless driving, because obviously the cop pulled you over for it. so you have 2 choices. 1 go with the fake story, tell the judge your in the army and hope he drops it since it is not that serious, or 2 go with wreckless driving which is a bigger fine which the court will prob want to get some money out of that and will prob reduce it to another 100$ fine...having it get dismissed because you weren't tailgating is unlikely because the cop could easily say to the judge i was trying to help him out, he was actually wreckless driving then you will have to pay the full fine for the tailgating. |

Imitated, But NEVER Duplicated

"So I changed lanes but I revved my engine as I changed lanes because I like to hear my intake."
you should man-up and pay the ticket.
"I'm also in the U.S. Army so I flashed my military I.D. when I pulled out my drivers license (I keep my military I.D. in front of my drivers license)."
you're a disgrace to the uniform, trying to use your service to get out of tickets
" I'm not sure what my story should be in court."
TRY telling the TRUTH instead of a "story".
"I can't afford a higher insurance rate I have to get this ticket dismissed."
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time (or pay the fine)...and when you get busted, don't whine. |

I got pulled over for doing 80 in a 65 zone. The cop wrote me up for "illegal equipment" instead of the speeding charge. It cost $165, same as the speeding would have cost, but carried no points against my license.
I thanked the cop profusely and paid the ticket. You should do the same. |

Sure fight the nice thing the cop did for you, and then AVOID N.H., because the cops WILL find out what you did and they WILL just be looking for your car to bust you. They WON'T do you any favors either. To be honest if I was a cop and saw you trying to flash your military I.D. that would be WHY I'd give you a ticket over a warning, you seem to think being in the military should get you out of tickets. |
