I Have delt with years of emotional abuse from my mother and feel it would be best if i was emancipated.?

i live in rhode island, and for as long as i can remember i have been dealing with emotional abuse from my mother. Threatening, beating, using objects including belts, belt buckles, metal coasters(thrown at me, and broke my finger), shoes, et cetera. i have several people who know my mother very well (some include immediate family members) who feel what im going through and also agree with me on this matter, and who also will let me live with them until i save up enough money to start living on my own. at my current job i make approx. $1100 a wk which im sure is plenty to rent an apartment, buy food, clothing, etc..im just not sure about how to go about recieving a petition for emancipation in my state. and what my chances are for winning my case against my mother. would really love answers. thanks in advance

Ask an adult relative to see if you can live with them, then ask your mom. If she see's you as such a "pain" that she would abuse you, then she probably wouldn't mind letting you go. That way you can save enough to get out on your own and hopefully go to college. You don't want to just leave to get away from her without getting your life together. I went through the same thing and made it, trust me you can get through it, just hang in there. I joined the military, that might be a thought for you later on, just make sure you finish school:) Good luck!

well... if you want to win this case, you should hide a camra in your house somewhere, so it can catch your mother in the action of abusing you.

You have my sympathies.I am not very informed about laws in this country.I don't understand why you need to be emancipated from your mother.If you are of legal age,can't you just leave her?Go live with a relative who is willing to help you.Stories like these just breaks my heart.God bless you!

I think you should definately try and move out that is not good for your health. You would deffinately win the case if you took her to court. How wouldnt you?? That is pleanty of money to live on but you might want to live with somebody just fro a little bit just to get used to be out of the house and then you can start looking for a house or an appartment.

You never stated your age? But of course if you go through that type of abuse, you do have rights, and have a much better chance of getting away than when I was abused as a child.

It sounds like you have done your homework, and may be an ideal case for emancipation. Maybe someone at your local Social Services (look in the government pages of a phone book) could give you advice.

Your income sounds good, but the reality of living on it and saving prudently might take some adjustment. Making $1100 and saving nothing is the same as making $11000 or $500 and saving nothing, in the long term. I don't know if your income is consistent. I would really suggest you try to continue your education after high school if possible, don't skip it just because you think you need to earn money for living.

You are on a good wage and I would start with looking through the telephone directory for free advice. Here in the UK we have the Citizens Advice Bureau that give all kinds of legal advice for free, is there anything like that where you are, maybe you should ask work colleagues who you trust or family members for assistance with this.
As for living alone, if family members have offered you a home then I would take up there offer for the time being whilst looking for suitable accommodation.and adjusting to being away from your mother. Then work out a budget plan like how much you wish to pay for rental, amenities , food and clothing, furniture etc so that you are living within your means and stick to it. Ask colleagues how much they pay out for these thing, this will give you some idea to how much your cost of living will be.

$1100/wk is a decent wage, more than enough to start living on your own (many people do so with far less).

i think you could def live on $1100 a week that is more than my mom makes and she supports 2 kids! but i think you should just move out and stop talking to her and stuff! emancipation would just be some stupid legal stuff! but it all just depends on your age

OMG!!! I would suggest getting emancipated. But mothers doing that kind of stuff? Broke your finger? Good lord... Ok, seriously, how old are you? $1100 a week! I could definitely live off of that!

I live in England and sorry I don't know the law where you are but you have my sympathy and prayers(I hope that means something to you) I think you should break free and seek a counsellor.
