In my opinion, you should. But in reality, you will probably get off with probation or, if you're lucky, a suspended sentence. |

If you get caught they'll mostly likely make you pay restitution and maybe probation. |

no what will happen is you will get a court date, go to court appear in front of the judge and tell the judge yes you were guilty, they will give u a fine or you can ask for community service. |

Probably won't go to jail.. You will have to pay a fine and you will have it on your record, probably for a year. If you stay out of trouble, you may be able to get it purged. |

Won't go to jail most likely...it is a misdemeanor...community service and fines....will go on your record...won't lose financial aid but any hopes of a career in law enforcement is seriously hurt. |

what is a criminal doing on Yahoo Answers? |

If they caught you, you will now have a criminal record. It could prevent you from getting jobs for the next 7 years or more & you may not get in to school. You may have to pay a fine of up to 2000 dollars. |

Depends on your location, in the state of California that is only a misdemeanor (most likely a fine and/or community service, perhaps ban from WalMart is the company's decision). If you stole $1000 worth of merchandise then you'd be looking at time in county jail. |

1st time offender I am taking it and you should get a fine and it should only be a misdemeanor. If you do it again the same crime it will be a felony. |

Well its not over 100.00 so its not a felony, so your okay with your school thing I think. Don't worry. Its just a misdemeanor, don't worry about it. |

Were you caught? I guess the best thing to do is to actually go back, reimburse what you took and all should go well. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a guilty conscience for life, which you don't want. Everyone makes stupid mistakes, they'll probably understand and appreciate you returning it and understand that you were just stupid. Walmart get stolen from everyday, so it's not a huge deal, and I doubt they'd get the police involved. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's time to make up for it :). If you were caught however, then well... As you're over 18 it's likely to be recorded for a long time, depending on the police officer... I'm not entirely sure on American laws I'm afraid. |

you just screwed up your entire future |

it is my understanding (and i have been wrong many times before) that if you are charged and convicted that yes, your financial aid is in jeopardy. hoever, i'm not sure if it applies to your case unless you are charged with a felony count. whatever the caseis, as soon as it is over, i would look into haveing it expunged from your record if you can... |

You won't go to jail. You'll be fined, put on probation, and have just seriously screwed-up your future as potential employers will all take this into consideration.
What you do is this: Stand up to what you did. Take the punishment. Apologize to the manager at Wal-Marts in person. Let the people around you know what you did, and that you really are sorry you did such a foolish thing. Don't try to hide it - it always comes out, and, then, you look ever worse.
Good luck, girl, and keep your head up. |

maybe you should reconsider your major, criminal justice isn't a place for 20 year olds who steal |

did you get caught?? if yes, you wont go to jail you will get a misdemeador and have to pay a fine. it will go on your criminal record but you can possibly get it expunged after a year passes. if you didnt get caught, then no you obviously wont go to jail... but dont keep doing that. you will feel as if you can get all this free stuff with out getting caught, but one day you will. it happened to me, i used to steal alchol when i was younger all the time... eventually i got caught and i got a misdeameanor. but after a year passed i got it expunged and removed from my criminal record |

It feels so awful right now (i'm sure) but trust me it could be worse! As long as your not planning to turn this into a lifelong spree of petty theft this will certainly pass! You will not lose your finacial aid nor will it have much of an impact on your training in criminal juistice-depending on how they charge you as a misdemeanor or a felon (but i'm thinking misdemeanor for sure) it may hurt your chances for certain jobs until u can get it expunged but learn a lesson from this...and Never go backwards |

More than likely you may get some time. They'll consider $85 to be alot. |

Walmart really pushes on these things to set an example to others, so they will insist on you getting the most severe punishment that they can get for you. Get a real goo lawyer as quick as you can and have him try to cut a deal |

Well 1) were you caught? If you weren't caught then I doubt anything would happen to you.
2) If you were caught: Did they make you return all the items and ban you from the store? That's usually what they do
3) the only way you would have police contact is if they kept you at the store until the cops came
You wouldn't go to jail--at most you'd get community service, but you'd probably be slapped on the wrist and let go since it's your first offense.
Unless you had contact with the police, your financial aid wouldn't be taken away from you-- and I'm pretty sure you can still get financial aid even with a prior record. |

Your first and main focus should be to address the fact that you're a thief.
This will be make known to whatever school you attend.
You probably won't go to jail, but will get punished somehow. |
