how will i go about doing that? does anyone no anybody in the new york city area and are they expensive.

Look in the phone book. There are several private polygraph operators.
The test usually costs a few hundred dollars.

Consider carefully whether you really want to do this. Lie detector tests are not infallible. Be aware that the test might show that you are lying even if you are telling the truth (and vice versa). This is why they are not permitted in court.
