It was in Illinois and my first (and last!) offense. I was given 12 months supervision. I already got my evaluation done and attended the victim impact panel and have made several payments on my fines. I mistakenly thought I had until the 12 months was up to complete the 10 hours of dui classes and pay all my fines off. Apparently I needed to get this all done within 6 months. I received a letter last week from the probation office that said I was possibly in violation because I didn't finish the classes and didn't have enough paid on my fines within the 6 month timeframe, and I have 30 days to submit proof to the probation office that I have done all this. I will pay the required fine amount this week and I will be able to finish my classes within 2 weeks, which will be well within the 30 days. Is this enough to keep them from violating me or is it too little, too late? I'm scared to call the probation office and ask them about it and I am kicking myself for misunderstanding the judge and not looking more closely at my court papers. I am scared to death!

it should .. you can always get extensions to complete the classes and pay fines.. it took me close to 18 months . but once completed i got mine back and i hope i never go through that again.. i would hate to have the ignition lock on my car .. |

You are in a hell hole. Whatever you do, don't get another one! This country is so full of it and this according to one ex-police officer is a big control and money maker for cities and states and programs.
I feel for you because the hypocrisy of people in this nation is astounding! Many people know that you are treated like a national treason convict by this system.

Call the probation officer. Many of them see themselves as being like parents, and they don't really want to violate you.
If you have a lot of money talk to a lawyer, but it probably isn't necessary. |

Call - they could violate you, but call and explain your situation. Do what you ahve to do to meet their requirements - and be able to prove it to the probation officer. Good luck. |

Finish the classes and pay the balance of fines, then notify the PO within 30 days of the notice. Chances are you will be OK. Newbies often don't get it right. That's why the PO gave you 30 days. |

if u have it all done within the 30 days and can show proof then u will be fine |

Good question. Depends on where you are. Some jurisdictions have no jail room for misdemeanor offenses just the bad felonies. With jail overcrowding a real problem almost everywhere they only have room for the real bad-*** criminals. Like I said, depends where you are. |
