I don't smoke, but I agree it should be legalized.
It makes absolutely no sense that pot is illegal while alcohol and tobacco (both of which are MORE harmful and MORE addictive) are legal.
Legalization would:
- Create thousands of jobs
- Deal a massive blow to criminal networks, which would suddenly be without a HUGE source of income
- Provide an enormous windfall for the government, which would bring in billions in taxes (ending Prohibition played a big part in getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression)
- Allow police, courts and prisons to focus their resources on DANGEROUS criminals, rather than potheads
Contact your representatives - if they hear from enough of us, they'll HAVE to start taking this issue seriously. As Gandhi once said, “first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.†|

Sure, then they can't afford to feed their kids. I have a friend who frequently went unfed so her mom could afford pot. Get a life. |

I doubt it, quite a few people probably have that same thought.
I know everyone is going to go to that whole "Prohibition" thing with the 30's and the Depression (sad that the only time people check history is for stuff like this) but with how far gone the economy is at the moment I doubt it'll do any good.
Technically speaking Pot is a "Luxury item" meaning you don't really need it (like food and shelter) but it's nice to have around. And when an economy goes belly up the FIRST things to go are the luxury items so that you can afford the necessities. So it would be a little pointless to leagalize pot if no one can afford it, cause you know when they do there'll be a tax and the price will go up.
I will tell you what will greatly improve the economy, get these idiot news channels to stop reporting gloom and doom every 20 minutes. Research "The Thrift Paradox" as far as economics goes, it states that when people are told that a bad economic time is coming they stop spending money, and when they stop spending money the economy doesn't get stimulated, and when that happens the economy actually DOES tank. It's all power of suggestion and the media is right behind it. |

Get those dogs trained now!
It is a soft drug, but unfortunately some people who try it get hooked. It is no longer a recreational drug when susceptible people get drawn into the harder drugs. Maybe you think it won't happen to you. That's ok but you will have mind altering experiences that permanently damage your health, that of your children when school and food become second place. A little harsh? Maybe if you are a teen having fun, but remember some adults are causing their kids grief because of it. |

Define what you mean by improve the economy...
it would generate money via tax... but think of all the incidents that could happen if someone is using the product negligently.
Similar to Prohibition, legalization of weed would have its Pro's and Con's |

yes. it will reduce the the influx of prosecutions /prisoners for marijauna crimes, it would allow law enforcemt and the courts to focus on other things...even reduce theier workforce...fewer tax dollars spent all the way around...and it would create a tax base that would be stable....9theres a point for all the religous right wing nut jobs...LOL)
we'll see it legalized in the next 20 yrs or so. there has been study
(50+ years worth ) after study proving its not a "gateway" or dangerous...no one has EVER od'd on weed....
its good for chemo patients, win , win , win,....
it only became illegal when white men were worried that black men would rape thier wives and daughters after smoking a joint....like they could.....if youve EVER smoked weed you know better...roflmao.....
i (personally) was FAR more interested in my doritos..... |

This subject was brought up just recently in my Political Science course.
I a agree with your question. I do believe this would stimulate the economy. A lot of people like weed, legalizing would make getting it not so dangerous to society. Enormous amount of money would be made. |

im a fellow weed smoker 2 but it would yet it wouldent because bout 70% of the anti narcotic force is demoted to marijuana so there would be alot of jobs lost but yet it would create alot more jobs by marijuana farms and the feds could just tax it because medical is better than most around so people would be buying it from stores and whatnot woulent it be great if you could go 2 the store n say i need a pack of 4 20 lights lol i think the positives out weigh the negatives by alot and also i did not mention that it would save alot of tax dollars i mean ALOT i mean thats alot of improvment right there and it would get the narcotic force working on more things that need to get off the street like cocain and methamphetamine |

i was thinking about it the other day and yeah i guess it could help the economy but the main thing is that i think it shouldn't be illegal when we live in a free place like this but we aren't allowed to do what we want with ourselves. I would never consider doing weed but i just believe that things that are a personal choice should be the choice the that person. Like if i wanted to kill myself i wouldn't be openly aloud to do that, that's a good thing but it's just an example we should be able to do as we please to our self cuz it's our buisness and no one else's lol but what do i know im only 16 |

You are not the only one. I don't do cuz of a bad experience, but i know tons of people who do.And they spend tons of money on it. I believe it would greatly boost the economy. The people I know spend at least $100 a week on it. |
