I have a debate on capital punishment. i need your help what are some main key points that needs to be issued?

My friends and I are doing a debate in out morality class in school and our topic is capital punishment pros and cons. Two people are doing cons on capital punishment and the other two are doing pros. What are some main points that i shall add to my debate to give my teacher a big WOOWW. Whats some things that the pro's can say and some that the con's could say.?? We need your help. thankss! <3

It is such an emotive subject that you cannot give a general answer. There are no pros or cons to the subject. It all breaks down to each individual case. Look at the newspapers over the years. How many people have been executed who have been innocent. How many have been guilty and got away with it? Give yourself a question: if someone broke into to your home, was threatening your family with a weapon, and you managed to overpower them and kill them - should you be executed for murder, or is it self defence. Of course it is self defence, BUT if you debate the laws of capital punishment, it is still murder. I was born the year that they hanged the last woman in Britain: Ruth Ellis - and that to me was a travesty of justice, even though she was guilty. Therefore, my answer would be NO to capital punishment, but YES to life imprisonment - and to mean actual life until the day they die.
