More information on the type of weapon and your country of residence would be useful. |

Learn how to shoot it.
Edit. If you live in "One of those" areas I would not register it. I would hide it. |

check with your local law enforcement and see if it is required to be registered other than that buy a child lock or put it in a safe.and to all you anti gun nuts out there what do you think will happen if guns are outlawed. you think criminals will hand over their guns and stop committing crimes. people are going to kill each other no mater what the only question is wether or not you will be able to defend yourself. outlaw guns people will use more bombs, knives, bow and arrow..... you cant stop violence you can only try to make sure you are not a statistic |

Make sure it is clean and oiled. Get ammo and find the nearest range to try it out, sight it in and then enjoy. You do not say what state you are in so more help I cannot give. |

ATTENTION: Testicles That Is All

To what? If you're going to carry it around in public you'll need a license to carry a concealed weapon. |

It depends on the state. Often, nothing. |

The answer depends on the laws in your state. Look them up here:
http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/#?st=IN
From the tone of your question I make the assumption that you would like to keep the gun. I also assume that you know little if anything about firearms.
First, make sure that you are in compliance with any and all state and local laws. Learn how to properly handle the type of firearm that you have received. Learn how to check to see that it is loaded, find out what cartridge it uses, learn how to load and unload.
Remember to never point the gun at something you do not want to shoot. Remember to keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Remember to be sure of your target before pulling the trigger. Never mix guns with mind altering substances such as alcohol or drugs.
I would recommend that you take a gun safety course, your local gun shop will point you in the right direction. If you have any question, go talk to the people in your local gun shop, most of these people are more than willing to help. |

if you're not a shooter, and want to learn, find a club to train you. it is as simple as driving a car, depending on how many pedestrians you hit. so a professional shooting sport center would be glad to help you.
you don't want legalities, of course. ask the police about local laws. long guns are far more easy to keep than pistols. size of course makes a pistol a choice for a criminal. ownership at home is often without registration but that is a texas idea. places differ. i wouldn't think it is a good idea to get a license to carry a gun, though it is possible. i own many but don't want to be a gun carrier!
above all, keep safe. if you have children, or if any can visit your home, keep the gun secured (locked up, with a trigger lock-may be required) and store the gun apart from ammunition. but be careful- an empty gun kills... |

you will need to have it licensed/registered under your name. don't be like plaxico...make sure that your firearm is on the up and up. |

Make sure that it is properly registered. if it isn't, you can either register it or if you want to dispose of it you should give it to the police department. |
