It's called "vagrancy." If you have no home and no job and no money, you are a vagrant. Check your local laws. |

I think there'd be a lot of homeless people in jail no? |

Actually the law is if you don't have some currency and some form of ID and your over 18 you can be arrested for vagrancy. But it's pretty much up to the police if they want to enforce it. |

In the military it's true, we have to have a days pay on us in case we get charged. Don't think civvies do. |

I always tuck 50p away just in case I'm frisked and searched.
If I'm going to jail, it'll be for murder, not for being skint :) |

What's your source? We are not obligated to carry any amount of cash. What you may heard is carry enough cash that you can afford to lose. This applies to vacationers to avoid carrying too much money when traveling or patronizing casinos. It is also wise to have access to money in case of emergencies. |
|

Debs
 |
Have never heard that.
With the debit card being so common, it really doesn't make sense - or seem necessary.
Not a terrible idea, of course, just not a requirement.
Do whatever you are comfortable with. |

Where on earth did you hear that??? Was it on April 1st? |
|

Leah

No, that's totally untrue as far as America goes. Where in the world did you hear that?? |

Some one is pulling your leg. |
|

Karl
|
Technically, yes.
Why? Because of vagrancy laws. If you don't have any
money on you, then you must be a vagrant |
|

kitkat

where did you hear that from........weird |

No. Court decisions have struck down vagrancy laws as unconstitutionally vague. |

I hope not. Oftentimes I carry no cash but a credit and a debit card. |

Spare change is always useful, but personally I tend to carry nothing, so therefore spend nothing and the price of nothing never goes up. |

Yes is it true
its called vagrancy if you dont have any money on you in a public place
every state has different llimits on how much that is
think its from the old days and it was used in a way to fight loitering |

That's true, its hardly ever in-forced. You need to carry at least 3 dollars or a valid ID card and/or a valid Drivers license with a set of house type keys. |
