In the UK, the fact that you turn up for work, are given work and are paid constitutes a contract. However, your employer is obliged to give you written terms and conditions within 8 weeks of starting, so you need to ask for this document. In the absence of written terms and conditions, the statutory conditions apply to your employment. |

Best answer is Fengirls, in my view, although there are other good ones; in your position I'd be inclined not to worry about it too much. Ask for the written terms and conditions by all means but be aware that your employer's failure to provide this document considerably strengthens any claim you make in the future if you are put in a position where you're either dismissed or put into a position where you feel you have no other option other than to resign. It's your employer's loss, essentially, not yours.
This isn't carte blanche to launch an action, incidentally :-) |

An employment contract, or ‘contract of employment’, is an agreement between an employer and an employee which sets out their employment rights, responsibilities and duties. These are called the ‘terms' of the contract.
NB: Your employment contract doesn’t have to be in writing. However, you are entitled to a written statement of your main employment terms within two months of starting work.
The employment contract is made as soon as you accept a job offer. If you start work it will show that you accepted the job on the terms offered by the employer, even if you don’t know what they are. Having a written contract could cut out disputes with your employer at a later date, and will help you understand your employment rights.
You and your employer are bound to the employment contract until it ends (usually by giving notice) or until the terms are changed (usually in an agreement between you and your employer). |

If you have worked there for 18 months, you have a VERBAL contract, if not a written contract. Even with a written contract, you have no legal rights eg to be able to take them to an industrial tribunal if unfairly sacked, until you have been employed continuously for 2 years. If I were you, I would speak to your local Citizens' Advice Bureau for advice. |

Unless you are part of a union, the employer is under no obligation to offer you a contract. |

I take it to mean you are currently hired thru a temp agency and having been working for your employer who hired you thru the agency? So you're wondering if you have a right to a full time salaried position? Well the answer to that is you really have no rights. The company doesn't have to hire you as a full time employee if the choose not to. Getting hired thru a temp is generally a great way to get your foot in a companies door but it's not a guarantee that that door will be swung wide open. Your best bet would be to talk to someone at the company, ask them if they are considering you for a full time employee and based on their answer, decide if you want to keep going thru the temp or seek employement at a place where a full time position is guaranteed. |
