I need Texas Legal Help!?

O.K. this is a little long so bear with me. About 6 weeks ago the sewage from another unit flooded into the townhouse that I am renting. Since this has occurred the landlord has made ME cut the nasty carpet out, (which she didn't allow me to do for about a week and since I work so much I didn't have a day off to do it for about a week after that), And we have been living with that section cut out for about a month now. They are finally getting around to fixing the issue. They are retiling our dining room, kitchen, front hall and bathroom. Unfortunately they have to do it while we still live here. We have to move all of our stuff into our small living room, and live like that for three days. Now they are saying that they want to tile underneath the refrigerator and they want to move that into the living room as well. We will have no space to move around in. To top it all off we will have no access to our kitchen for at least two days meaning we have to eat out every meal which we cannot afford. Are there any legal rights we have or can they just do as they please?

Unfortunately for the landlord they had no choice but to fix the problem as it was RAW SEWAGE. I feel that they have taken too long with such a serious problem to begin with, much less the inconvenience they are putting us through.

I agree with Jake. You definitly want to start taking inventory about the situation. Take photos of the damage, document the conversations. Write up a simple agreement just saying what the landlord was going todo, when he was going to do it and what the landlord needed you to do so the landlord could do their part and both sign it. That way if you do need to take it to that step of going to court, you'll already have all the evidence of what your landlord agree to do but didn't do. But I also recondmend you getting a Pre-Paid Legal Membership. They have a network of affordable attorneys. If the cost wasn't a problem I'm sure you wouldn't mind talking to a lawyer about this situation and asking them what your rights are as a tentant. You never know what if legally your landlord have to put you in a new appartment or hotel until they get the work done? I call my law firm over small things, big things & just what if questions. If you don't know your rights you dont have any. I wish you the best and here the information source on Pre-Paid Legal Services.

Do you want them to fix the problem or not?
They could have just done nothing.
You should consider yourself lucky that you have a landlord that cares about the maintenance of the building.
