I need advice on a criminal legal matter?

There are several charges in this matter.However one of them is something that isn't mine it is the co- defendants charge.I had an idiot attorney who did not help in court and with no understanding of what was being said or what i was doing i found out later that i plead to this charge.It was no where in my list of charges neither was i booked on it.I don't know what to do i have consultations with other attorneys set up.In the meantime any advice on what to do about this I have never been in trouble before and don't know anything about the legal system.Help.

Most of the time the defense attorney will work out a deal with the prosecutors office for a "plea deal" in which case you would plead guilty to a lessor charge even if you weren't charged with it. The prosecutors will accept it so as to move their case load along. The reason defense attorneys ask you to do this is that the case against you is strong.

Based off of your new information you need to get a hold of the state bar association and let them know of this. You may also get a hold of the public defenders office it is possible that your public defender got the cases mixed up if he was representing both of you. here is a link to all of the state bar associations.

Yahoo Answers is not the place to go for legal advice. If you cannot afford a lawyer call the local bar association and ask for a list of lawyers who can do pro-bono work.

1. Get another attorney, have the new attorney file an appeal based on incompetent representation.
