I went to a beauty school when I was 19, and didn't stay the course.
I tried to dispute it, writing them saying I was young, I didn't even graduate HS (got my GED :p) and wasn't aware of what I was really signing. They said I needed to start making payments or whatever I could do to pay back like $6000.00 !!!! I am out of work and I don't even have a bank account! They said something about the Dept. of Justice, and now I'm a little tripped out.
What does that mean? Are they going to arrest me? Lol!
So, anyone?????

You were a legal adult when you signed the contract to attend the school. Whether you understood what you were signing and whether or not you finished the course is beside the point.
You are obligated to pay the debt and it will reflect on your credit until you do. Your best bet is to contact the school and make arrangements to start paying it off. At least take the initiative to communicate with them and explain your present predicament. Avoiding it will only make matters worse. |

One of the biggest things about living in the united states is that there is no such thing as debter jail. What they are threating to do is just sue you. You can try to argue but you will probably loose. Then you will be obligate to make arrangments with the plaintiff to pay of the debt. If you don't they can and will garnish your wages (if you have a job) or put a lean on your bank account (if you have one). If they can't get either they can ask the court to summons you so that the judge cam decide if you have any non-exempt assets. if you do then the judge can put a lean on the item to pay off the debt, Basically this process can take monthes and also puts so much stress on you. Anyways good luck. |

No matter what your education was, you were 18 (or older, legally an adult) when you signed the contract. Therefore you have a legal obligation to pay the debt....unfortunately there is no way to get out of that..
